Cripes, I had to move a couple months ago. To keep from trying to pack my CDs and books inna couple days, and keep them out of range of fresh paint and leaking water, I moved them all into storage until I could get settled in my new place.

So I've been without my CDs and stereo for three freakin' months (one reason I've got so much time to write these things). If nothing else, it's been the proverbial STRANDED desert island experience, except that unlike Tom Hanks, I have food, shelter and dental care. Just none of the important stuff.

So here's what that monkey on my back. which feels like a 600-pound gorilla anymore, is screaming for (when he's not screaming for jazz):

    1. Rolling Stones - EXILE ON MAIN STREET

    2. Rolling Stones - STICKY FINGERS

    3. The Faces - GOOD BOYS WHEN THEY'RE ASLEEP: BEST OF

    4. Marshall Crenshaw - THIS IS EASY: BEST OF

    5. Aretha Franklin - ARETHA SOUL/ARETHA NOW (MFSL)

    6. Rod Stewart - MERCURY ANTHOLOGY

    7. The Temptations - ULTIMATE COLLECTION

    8. The Clash - LONDON CALLING

    9. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - ULTIMATE COLLECTION

    10. Ray Charles - UH-HUH

    11. Van Morrison - IT'S TOO LATE TO STOP NOW

These are going to sound so @#$%^ good when I get 'em back in my sweaty hands. Well, actually they'll sound better in the stereo, but you know what I mean.

I thought putting them in storage until I got things reasonably squared away would motivate me to get things done. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME: IT DOESN'T WORK! Instead I spend my time on the internet looking for the OOP discs you guys recommend. So I've got no music in my place, expensive discs I can't audition on the way, and a kitchen that would shame squatting crackheads. Arrgh!

Marshall Crenshaw. My man! I saw his trio on the Merv show back in (was it) 82? Inspired me to get the old guitar out again and I've been thwackin' ever since..

As are mine. I just moved cross country and can't get my things out of storage until I get the apartment situation together. So I am going through CD AND VINYL withdrawal. AAArrggh! AND, there's a cool used record/cd store here and I just picked up a few treasures that I cant play yet! Must...get...monkey off back(Shatner impression). Got to...fight it...cant...lose control!

    I hear ya!

    Ron,

I recently moved and I am still unpacking CD's. I will say that the first thing I did after the movers left (outside of cringing at the bill), was re-hook up the Stereo. This, of course, took precedence over such things as unpacking the kitchen. Once the Stereo was hooked up, I could then unpack the rest of the boxes. I mean a guy has to have his priorities, right?

    Bob :D

I got the shivers when I switched cars with my wife for two weeks and had to commute to work without a CD player. I ended up digging out some old mix tape cassettes I had made in college, and having a nostalgic fortnight of 80s alternative music and Tom Waits Island years, though.

    Regards,

It's been 11 years since I was in your situation, but I moved from an apartment to a detached single family house (which, btw, is the ultimate piece of audio equipment). When all was finally hooked up again - it was the single best "listening session" I've ever had.

And my first session started with Exile - the first lp you listed.

    '64 sunburst Strat mainly.

I have a '63 Tele, '66 Strat and a bunch of Gibsons as well.

Oh, and my George Harrison style Gretsch Country Gent. for that "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" sound..:)

 That is so true Ron - when I moved house a few years back I knew the kitchen needed reworking in the new place - I lived with it for about 6 months then ripped all th e units out - put some in the garage, some left outside - practised painting them with emulsion (hint - NEVER do this). All in the belief that it would force me to get a kitchen fitted  well the wonders of delivery food lasted a little while and then one day I refitted a number of the units (much the worse for wear). So there I was with a kitchen that the Young Ones wouldn't have a food fight in - this must force me to get a new kitchen - sure it did about 4 years later. I have a VERY understanding other half - she is now very happy with the new kitchen - all I need to do now is fix the bathroom (flushing has always been over-rated :D )

    All the best - Andrew
