I have one on my Avenger, the Dual Pivot came stock. Works great, easier to setup.

You won't know unless you actually test one.

I totally get this, but I just don't want to risk my fumble fingers on a $$$$ cartridge.

You have nothing to fear but fear itself!

And how can one be certain that someone else did it all correctly?

I understand. But at some point a cartridge change will happen. I would rather trust my fingers than someone else’s. And settings can change slightly. Do you at least tweak settings like VTA and VTF yourself? Can be fun to hear the effects.

Well...First, I am not going to pay someone unless they are a professional that has set up hundreds of tables.

If the TT tracks beautifully, with very low noise and the musicality and tone is there, then it is set up correctly.

Fully, agreed that's why a beater cartridge is good to have on hand. It allows you to learn without killing your wallet. I am not the greatest at setting up my table, but I care the most and will tweak it one mm at a time to get it right.

I have played with the VTF as of late. I set up my own TT for decades. Now that I have a lot more invested in my vinyl playback system I prefer to have it professionally set up.

I prefer the thrill in taking chances with my expensive system. Joking!

Anyway, for those that want to install, I recommend the Dual Pivot mod.

You do have an expensive system! Some people are handier than others. Some people have great fine motor skills and lots of patience. Not me.

Does everyone with the Dual Pivot mod still like it and think it was worth the cost? I've been thinking about getting one for my Scout with the older JMW 9 Memorial arm but I'm still on the fence about it.

Yes. Still like it. Much better and easier way to set the azimuth correctly.

Just bought one off Audiogon unused for $110 shipped, not a bad price.

I do not own a VPI, and therefore have not had a chance to get one. But I witnessed one being demo'ed by Matt of VPI. And I got to try it myself at the demo. It really helps to alleviate that wiggly "broken feel" that unipivot arms have, and to feel more like a gimbaled arm, without using a gimbal.

If I owned a VPI, I'd run, not walk to add one of these to my arm.

I've had it on and off and definitely prefer it on. Even though I hard a hard time over the ridiculous markup, it's still a good value in the analog world we live in. Makes much more of an improvement for way less money than many other tweaks. I'd go as far to say as moving up one rung on the ladder in say a cartridge, like going from Red to Blue in Ortofon terms.

I've spent allot more and got allot less.

Is this easy to install? And do I have to change any of my “settings”?

I recommend checking the VPI forum for tips. I thought it was relatively easy.

Ridiculous markup on audio tweaks? Are you serious? I've never heard of or seen such a thing! :biglaugh:

Have you also tried the VPI anti skate device? I'm still undecided about that too. I've read a lot of pros and cons about whether it's really necessary or it's just something to spend money on.
