I'm interested in this also, its in the same price range as the Traveler, which one is better? Is the HW-19 an older platter? Would this use standard VPI belts or do you need to get specific HW-19 replacement belts since I think that's an older platter? Looks like a better arm than the Traveler. I'd be interested to hear what VPI owners think of this some what custom turntable.

Thanks good info. I have 2-4 weeks to figure all that out and they are based in Chicago so returns should be easy.

VPI is based in New Jersey. Or did I misread your post?

The traveler looks like a good table for that price range, but If I was in the market for a table at that price, I'd jump on one of these (or buy a used standard scout). VPI never rests.

That was my first thought when I opened the MD Spring flyer and saw this table . . . I finally had to throw out the flyer.

That looks great! Hope you enjoy it. I'm very seriously thinking about getting one myself, as that's a great price. The Traveler is also up for consideration as is the Clearaudio Concept. Any thoughts from others as the best way to go?

This does NOT include a cartridge for that price-correct?

Doesn't say yea or nay on the site. I do think that MD will install a cartridge for you, for more money, naturally.

    I can't imagine it would.

carts are usuallya personal decision, if you get some with the table it is usually a sub 100 buck model and does not do this table much justice. You should invest at least 350 for a decent cart to get significant better sound than from an average CD Player - Ortofon Bronze, Denon 103 R , Goldring 2500 r a Benz MC Gold for example. If you go a step higher and look at the Ortofon 2m Black, Sumiko EVO III it brings the price much closer to 2 grand fast..

Congrats! My mkIII uses the same platter/bearing. The platter can, indeed, spin and spin. I experimented with lubricants a bit and settled on a medium weight Mobil1.

    Yes or dusdt cover.

Being that the dust cover does not seem to be hinged is it more trouble than it's worth?

Did you order your cartridge from Music Direct? If yes, ask if they will install the cartridge for you so have a happy ending to the deal.

I just ordered one and it shipped out today. Upgrading from a project carbon I can't wait. I'm not sure what cartridge to go with any ideas?
