To celebrate the centennial of Mr. Fields's film career, they'll be showing three of his very best tonight.

The Bank Dick (8 pm ET)
    It's a Gift (9:40 pm ET)
You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (11 pm ET)

Then they'll round things out with the 1935 version of David Copperfield, featuring Fields as Mr. Micawber.

Of those, "It's a Gift" is my absolute favorite Fields film. The whole thing is great, but the porch scene is pure gold. "Carl LaFong, capital L, small a..." indeed.

Great trio of WC, but I would substitute "Man On The Flying Trapeze" for "You Can't Cheat."

Love the scene with Shemp Howard bartending in "The Bank Dick. "

"Was I in here last night...."

All good, but my favorite feel-good Fields' film is "If I Had a Million".

He was definitely one heck of a character, on screen and off.

I never saw The Bank Dick before now. How did that happen? I've seen the next two. I'm recording tonight too. Classic and thanks for the heads up.

These movies were shown in Rep houses continually when I was a teenager in the late sixties and seventies in SF. Fabulous stuff. I'm so grateful that Turner keeps these things alive.

I watched The Bank Dick with two friends who had never seen it & who were a bit hostile to the idea of watching a B&W movie of any sort.

A half hour in - and they had become fans!!

Ol' W.C., he's still got it!

    Love W.C.
I read a book about him many years ago.
It was written by his wife or girlfriend.
She told a great story about taking singing lessons.
She came home and sang something for W.C and asked his opinion
    of her performance.
    He replied..
My dear, you sound like a monsoon whistling up an aardvark's a@@hole.
    I always loved that line.
