The ENTIRE film (including the last 7 minutes) has been located:

This is a must for: Music lovers, old recording studio gear lovers, Mel Blanc lovers, Billy May lovers, Dean Martin lovers, etc.

For those of you who have seen this, watch again to see complete 36 minute film. For those of you who have not seen this, a great (but vintage) look at how Capitol records are made, including glimpses of the A&R guys (like Lee Gillette and Dave Dexter, Jr.), the recording studio at Melrose and how it was set up, the control room and even how records were cut, processed (master, mother, stamper) pressed, packaged and shipped.

Made by Capitol Records, enjoy this rare find.

Sorry, Alison just posted it so I jumped on it. Such a quirky little movie, Billy May looks like a total hayseed (which is the idea, I guess).

The studio footage is 100% amazing, as is that table filled with the best A&R talent this side of the moon.

Did he direct this Steve ?
    Has plenty of his style....
Seriously, the industrial process is mind boggling
Amazing it worked, patented in 1903.

If the mix has lots of extra reverb and EQ added, then that could well be Dave Dexter's work.

I've seen the short version, but not the extended special edition. It's a wonderful glimpse into the past.

I would love to know when this video was recorded. There is a comment on the youtube page that makes a guess of 1954, and that's consistent with the time frame that wikipedia mentions for him working at Capitol Records. Can anyone pin it down more accurately than that?

I'd say 1952 or so but there was another thread here that I thought put it right on the spot. Can't find it now though.. Anyone find it?

I found it: 1951 -- it is listed on the page with the partial clip.

I got a laugh when I saw RCA's Nipper next to the 4 cent DOG RECORDS. Ha!
