Not where I lived. I was 7 and I can probably still sing every word by heart.

It was definitely played -- I didn't own it and remember hearing it plenty.

Probably one of the most edited singles in history. All the funniest lines are gone. Same for the follow up Reelin' And Rockin', all the best verses are cut out. The live side of London Sessions is classic, and the ONLY way to hear these tunes.

Played it a lot in Houston. My first exposure to Chuck Berry other than the songs the Beatles had covered. Now that I know his pervert history it's no surprise it came from him. Even so he goes on my rock and roll Mount Everest.

It was played all the time on AM radio in central Wisconsin, to the point where I was thoroughly tired of it.

My grandmother, who also absolutely hated all rock music, loved "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". She would swing her arms and slap her hands on her legs during the "hands across the water" section and say, "this is good music!" I was shocked.

In retrospect, the song has auto biographical irony.

Played to death on AM radio here. As many others have stated, a travesty that with all the classics from the 50's and early 60's it this was Chuck's only #1.

As dopey as the song is, now I have to look these live sessions up to hear the verses I never knew there was.

Gee....the local radio station played it ALL the time! I was just a kid and we loved it !!! Used to think it was the funniest thing we heard....ended up having my parents buy me the single ! I would compare it to Benny Bell's version of the Shaving Cream song that came out around the same time...a fun novelty song.

I agree 100% Hearing the "My Ding-A-Ling" single out of context really hurts it.

The single I knew and loved as a kid does not hold a candle to the full version ! That's a classic !

I threw my single away when I got the album. The single suddenly blew big time.

They certainly played it non-stop on AM radio in Charlotte NC.

Thanks I wasn't sure....I just remember having and loving both singles as a kid! What typical American boy in the 70's wouldn't love the silliness of those two songs !! ha ha!
