Just curious if anyone knows if a documentary, or even a book on the band. I've tried searching but to no avail, which is strange given how successful and influential the band was.

Unfortunately, nothing so far. Would be nice.

    Classic Albums documentary anyone?

They did an episode of Behind The Music but it was so scandalous and outrageous that it was never released. Those Cars guys are seriously out of control.

The Cars Unlocked contains documentary-style filmmaking interspersed with concert footage. There is a lot of interesting stuff, as the amateur black and white footage was shot by one of the band members (Elliott Easton?-not sure) I recommend it.

Although I think their debut is one of the best albums ever, I have to admit that when I saw them on their Candy-O tour I was underwhelmed by their performance.

The other live DVD (on Rhino) has a half-hour interview, filmed toward the end of Ben's life, that covers much of their history. (And I was the off camera interviewer).
