I'm sure there have been a number of threads about favorite album covers, but I was just thinking about some of the inside art that really justifies gatefold covers. Here are just a few (Sorry, I'm not quite tech-savvy enough to post them): Tres Hombres - ZZ Topp (That mouthwatering Mexican platter) Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane (That mouthwatering PB&J) Wheels of Fire - Cream (Silver on the outside and a burst of psychedelic colors on the inside) The Faces I've Been - Jim Croce (Hard stock pages graced with copious annotation and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of rare archival photos) McCartney - Paul McCartney (Lots of photos emanating domestic bliss; I especially like the one of Macca picking his nose.) For Ladies Only - Steppenwolf (OK, maybe it's a good thing I don't know how to post that one.) Too many good ones to list in one post. What are some of your faves?
I can't begin to describe the impact that inner gatefold for Kiss Alive II had on me and my mates back in 1977 (when I was 13). Were they ever truely like that live or was this a creation for the sleeve...?
Soft Machine 'Third' (1970) Stevie Wonder 'Innervisions' (1973) Steely Dan 'Pretzel Logic' (1974) Sorry, I'm a luddite so can't post pictures.
The original "Living In The Past" album, with the book of photos, was a dream for me, since I was just about a year into my nutsie new Tull "fan-ship" when it got released... I wasn't even aware of all those UK release singles included, so imagine my surprise... Those sure were the days (...of surprises!)...
Here's an interesting one, perhaps not cool, but it's an anti-depressant drug advertised in the gatefold of an album called Symposium In Blues. Somehow I've ended up with two copies of this album! BluesDrugs (2) by Retro Hound, on Flickr
