Never saw him, Rainbow was to play in my town in 79 but they cancelled. its amazing the number of great people he played with, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker, Tony Iommi, Brian May, Robert Plant, Ronnie Dio, Graham Bonnet, David Coverdale to name some.

Allegedly, this track from Jeff Beck's "Who Else!" album was a tribute to Cozy from Jeff:

Cozy was definitely one of the best.

I'm not sure if I saw him or not actually, but count myself as a fan. May have seen him with MSG or Rainbow back in the day.

    A quick Cozy story though.

I was in a place in South Shields, England called the Cellar Club in the mid-90's. Was touring around with Wishbone Ash at the time, catching shows, helping sell merch, hanging out, etc. A lot of bands played that place. I was looking at the posters on the wall b4 a show. There was something there for a band that had Cozy in it. I can't remember what band it was. Think Cozy had signed it? Or maybe it was a photo of Cozy hanging on the wall. Can't recall. Anyways I remarked about it, saying something like "cool, that's Cozy Powell!". And there was an older woman who worked there, think she was organizing the ticket sales or something, sitting at a table nearby. She looked up and - I'll never forget this - in her heavy northern English/almost Scottish accent said - "Loovley mahn. Loovely mahn".

    Wow....that long.
I became a big fan of his with his work in Rainbow.
And even a bigger fan when I explored his amazing career.

Sucks, he was dating a married chick, she was at home fighting with her husband and called Cozy...who came rushing to her rescue...he was on the phone with her when he hit a bit of ice, his last words were "oh ****..."

    What a waste

Interesting detail that I didn't know about the crash that killed him.

Wow - has it really been that long? I managed to see him only once with Emerson, Lake and Powell.

Cozy was stellar....Anything w him and the Jeff Beck Group is perfection. I had never heard that story above regarding his fatal car accident:; how painfully sad. I have to play ‘the Orange Album’ in tribute this weekend.

There were some songs from those albums performed live on Youtube. There were plenty of shots of Cozy on songs like Going Down, Situation and Got the Feeling, among others.

I would start with Rainbow - On Stage.
It's a live album and probably my favorite by Rainbow.
A good entry point for the Rainbow catalog.

Gotta be Rising of course! (studio anyways)

I'm a huge Schenker fan so I'd also recommend MSG and the live One Night at Budokan.

They are all great. Each and everyone. You can't go wrong. If you like that genre of rock, they are essential.
