    Agreed.

Also, major props to "Keep Fishin'". I can never get enough of that classic! :)

On another note, I don't know what the general consensus is (I haven't followed the thread...) but I'm not too keen on the latest album yet. I mean, I like it and it's good and all, but Everything Will Be Alright In The End still just slams it out of the park for me so much that I can't help but feel let down by White, if that makes sense.

    :)

Totally disagree. Completely opposite response. I felt EWBAITE was the letdown album and the new "white" album is the redemption. I was really looking forward to the guys getting back together with RO, and surprised he let some of those lyrics get by. Back To The Shack is too easy, and I hate when bands date their recordings in the lyrics. I like the backing tracks, but the titles and lyrical approach ridiculous. The British Are Coming, Cleopatra, and I've Had It Up To Here are not clever. I think Rivers knew that and did the soul searching, going on Tinder, thing. There a 3 tracks on White that are highlights in the entire Weezer catalogue: California Kids, LA Girlz, and Endless Bummer....classics. Three more standouts: King Of The World, Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori, and Thank God for Girls...as good as the highlights from their last 3 albums. Anyway, totally different reaction...weird.

I thought EWBAITE showed the first signs of life from the band since "Make Believe". Still very inconsistent but some good songs. "The White Album" is nearly a complete return to form, in my opinion.

    Interesting indeed. :)

Yea, I don't know why, but EWBAITE just hit me hard and made me go "WEEZER IS BACK!". I could personally care less if the lyrics are simple or dating or whatever. If it's rocking and catchy and infectious, it's got my seal of approval. But that's just me.

I don't totally dislike EWBAITE, like all of their albums since Green, they have a handful of highlights. I really like Ain't Got Nobody, Lonely Girl, Da Vinci and Go Away. I was just surprised it wasn't great, like the two other RO-produced gems. This seemed like another Hurley.
I think they should return to Songs From The Black Hole, re-record it, omitting anything from Pinkerton, but keeping in the general concept and using the best songs, bits, ideas from the demos. Three great songs, Blast Off!, You Gave Your Love To Me Softly and Longtime Sunshine are shoe-ins. They could put a little more meat on the bones of Superfriend, Oh, Jonas, She Had A Girl, Oh No This Is Not For Me, Waiting On You, Good News, When You Are Alone and Now I Finally See. Maybe others.

C'mon, EWBARITE is way, way better than Hurley!

Listening to so many alternative albums from this year since I've been catching up recently, the Weezer album stands out so much due to the melodies. There's such good crafting in them, the counter melodies, the harmonies. It's got a nice mesh of lighter and darker lyrics with mostly sunny tunes. "King of the World" is a good example of the lyrics in the verses telling a negative story with a bit bright chorus which has lyrics that exude confidence. It's a good dynamic working through the album and I don't hear as much thought put behind stuff like Hurley or Raditude.

Seriously , what would I qualify as:

Bought the Blue Album in 1994, thought then and now that it is one of the three best albums of the 90s.

Bought Pinkerton the day it went on sale in 1996, have never been more disappointed with any second LP ever, and haven't bought a Weezer album since.

You'd qualify as an ex-fan. The thing is Pinkerton turned off almost everyone in 1996. But by 1999, somehow by word of mouth and there disappearance, it got focused on further and people finally caught up to it. I loved it so much I painted a 3x3 ft. picture of the cover- that snow scene in 1998 for art class. That's my proof that I was one that always enjoyed it. I remember my teacher thought it looked familiar but she didn't know the group.

So you came here and opened up so perhaps you're willing to take a road. You can travel back to Pinkerton and maybe you're re-assessment would match that of past listeners that had the album grow on them. The other option is to try either this 2016 album or the 2001 "Green" album which both sound closest to the debut. The 'Blue', 'Green' and 'White' albums all are the same kind of power pop/ alt rock -all incredibly melodic with many catchy hooky tracks. As much as I have some great personal memories with the 'Green' album, this new one really feels like their best in 20 years as you can see from all the posts here praising it.

The 'Green' album is like 28 minutes and the 'White' is under 40, they are well spent time.

I do recall hearing and liking a Weezer song called 'keep fishing', maybe 15 years ago? Is that from the Green album?

Ha, yes that's a fantastic hook and pop song that's on Maladroit. But that could have easily fit on the 'Green' album. The 'Green' has 'Hash Pipe' which is heavier than the rest of the album and another fantastic pop melody in "Island in the Sun" which is so likable I'll post it here. Hey it's only 3 min. This is the more famous Spike Jonze version with the cutesy animals- 30 million watched it so join the bandwagon!

Not sure if the White Album is a "return to form" record but there are a bunch of enjoyable moments. "Endless Bummer" is one of their best songs since the early 2000s, IMO.

Spinning this again, Blue, Pinkerton, Green, Maldroit & White are my top 5 Weezer albums. White is really solid, no forced over the top hit single attempts (like Beverly Hills..), simply a bunch of well crafted songs with great harmonies!

I saw Weezer live last night for the first time. I have always wanted to see them live, so it was cool to finally see them. I had some nice seats about 10 rows back at an outdoor casino stage set up.

They are such a quirky band and this is why I love them. I have always liked how they are kind of nerdy, but rock out hard at times.

Rivers brought out some cheesy hats during a couple of songs.

"Hash Pipe" was the highlight for me. What a killer song live.

They added in a cover of "Hey Ya" by Outkast that they didn't really finish.

I had a fun time taking my 21 year old son who loves 90's rock.

I will add "Everything Will Be Alright In The End" to my list of top 6 Weezer albums. Missed it somehow.

So Weezer's Black Album is supposed to be out this coming Friday.

But since Rivers himself said, a few months ago, that 25th May was to be the release date, there has been no news whatsoever. No updates, no single, nothing. Very odd.

What the hell is going on?

I suppose the easiest explanation is that it has been delayed. And I wouldn't begrudge them a delay if it helps improve the final album. After all, Weezer has been quite prolific these past ten years. Some would say too prolific.

It's just odd that, after sounding so definitive about the release date, nothing else has been said.

The other possibility is that the Black Album really is coming this Friday, and a flash bang wallop online promo campaign is about to start...

So we got new Weezer music this week. But not the Black Album - instead, a cover of Toto's Rosanna:

Not half bad, this. The bass is great.

Poor old Scott Shriner. He's a monster player, and he has been in the band over 15 years. Yet it seems like most fans hate him because he isn't Matt Sharp.

What’s the general quality of Weezer on vinyl in terms of sound and pressings? I bought the debut album in 94 at college and had this Weezer baseball cap with a massive W on the front. Pinkerton though was a disappointment and I didn’t buy another album until Raditude and Hurley. Then stopped again. Hash Pipe is a great track.

I quite enjoyed this version of Rosanna. At first just by reading about it I thought it was kind of off the wall. But when I heard it they did a great job and stayed pretty true to the original.
