Post above me should help you.
Welcome to the forum 70's fan post plenty.
Don't know where to ask this, so I will ask it here. What is the philosophy of having the old threads closed by default? There was a time when it seemed you could add to any thread of any age and I loved that. Now it seems to be getting more and more frustrating to do searches on a subject as threads open and close then more threads on the same subject are created and the whole site gets more convoluted with more and more threads on the same subjects. Wouldn't it be more efficient to just leave everything open to comment on? Thank you.
It has to do with the forum software.
Was it always this way?
I don't remember. Ask a gort.
Yes, what is a gort? Is it an acronym for something? Anyway I'm fairly new and enjoying the forums very much. Great host, fantastic house and all!
Weren't always using the Xenforo software, this only happened in the past four (?) years...
(And a "Gort" is what we call a moderator, named after the robot character from The Day The Earth Stood Still...or, the cover of Ringo's Goodnight Vienna album...because every thread should include some pointless Beatles references; it's in the bylines somewhere...)
If you've ever seen the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still", you'll understand why Steve calls his moderators "gorts".
Gort = Moderator
That's an essential and big part of my life. A day when I haven't listened to some music feels incomplete. I try to have as few of those as possible.
Though today's been one.
It is part of the forum software housecleaning. Every morning the forum has to 're-index' itself. The more threads that are open, the longer it takes to re-index. You may have noticed that at some point in the wee-wee hours of the morning it takes a while to submit a post and often will click submit several times, often resulting in multiple duplicate posts. The re-indexing takes priority during this time, and post submittals get delayed.
In order to cut down on this re-indexing burden, threads that have been inactive for 3(?) years are automatically closed so that they can avoid the process and speed up the indexing.
Most threads can be re-opened just by asking a moderator on duty.
Well that makes a lot of sense! Thank you.
I've been on here a lot, looking up opinions on equipment I can't afford as well as music, so thought I might as well join.
You are asking a question that is answered in the first post in this very thread which is written by the guy who runs this place and the thread title is even telling new members to read this thread.
1. I asked a question because I didn't know
2. What business is it of yours?
3. Run along now.
Cool, don't read the rules then and post away. Have a pleasant day.
Nice to be here
I'm a "long time lurker" on this forum, then I decided to join. I'm from Italy and I'm a huge fan/collector of Classical and Jazz music. I like rock and pop classics too (among my favorite bands are Doors, Kraftwerk, Pogues, ZZTop and many others) and obviously Italian music.
There ya go, now, Hollow Horse. Feeling welcome yet?
It’s cool, he won’t see your post. He private messaged me to say that he has put you on ignore as well as me.
Yes, he stopped what he was doing, clicked on my name, opened a conversation and took the time to compose a message to me to tell me he that is ignoring me, too.
This is great news, I am glad to hear things have changed on this matter.
Hi all, just joined up. Looking forward to spending some time here. Quick question - how do I upload an avatar? I can't see anywhere within the user CP to do this.
Hello everyone! Long time lurker here who finally decided to dip my toes in the water. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get along here? I wish to avoid getting into conflicts with others.
