    Can't wait for this one…

I always look forward to Anderson's inspired lunacy, this time he wrote the script himself instead of collaborating. Phenomenal cast as usual….

Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Willem DaFoe, Adrian Brody, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham, Tom Wilkinson, Bob Balaban…and more.

I'm a big fan, but this looks like a field previously plowed. Tho I realize the trailer may be cut to appeal to his fan base.

  9. I was knocked out by Moonrise Kingdom, which I thought was his best film since Rushmore. The trailer for this new one makes it seem like Rushmore Redux.

I generally like all of Wes' films, but this trailer looks especially spectacular.

This looks like the scenery-chewing role Ralph Fiennes was born to play. Can't wait.

Existing evidence implies that this film takes place in three different time periods, each with its own aspect ratio, and only one of them is heavily featured in this trailer. Exciting!

Can't wait here. I just watched Rushmore again last night.

I thought Moonrise Kingdom was best movie last year..

Reviews from the Berlin Film Fest have been mostly raves. Evidently it's the first WA film to have cursing (an integral part of Fiennes' character) and sex that is not implied.

This looks like a really by-the-numbers film for him. Wes Anderson is really playing it safe and has almost become a parody of himself. But god help me, I think I still want to see it!

Also, what aspect ratio is this in? I've noticed the trailers have it really narrow. Strange choice.

Does Hotel Chevalier (2007) count? I recall it had some sexy scenes in it; were they still only "implied" compared to the scenes you're referring to in The Grand Budapest Hotel? What is this emerging theme of Wes Anderson and sex in hotels (and perhaps also implied sex in tents) all about?

Hotel Chevalier didn't have any "curse words" in it? Perhaps not; can't recall anything specifically. Not even Rushmore (I'm thinking of the stage adaptation of the Al Pacino movie in particular)?

I'm looking forward to this new film, regardless of whether or not it has adult situations, sexual situations, nudity, "dirty words," or similar elements that quiver the moral compasses of some people .... A beautifully presented story with interesting characters saying interesting things, all done in the general idiosyncratic style and singular vision of Wes Anderson, usually is good enough for me to be entertained.

    Craig.

The film was shot in multiple aspect ratios depending on the time frame of the sequence in the movie, from IMDB:

    1.85 : 1 (some scenes)
    2.35 : 1 (some scenes)

    Camera

Arricam ST, Cooke S4 and Angenieux Optimo Lenses
    Negative Format35 mm

    Cinematographic Process
    (anamorphic) (some scenes)
    Spherical (some scenes)

Interesting. Not crazy about the 1.37:1 aspect. I'm sure he'll compose the shots appropriately, but several of the scenes in that preview looked too cramped. Still can't wait to see it. Wes hasn't disappointed me yet.

I saw this as an invited sneak in Pasadena, a few weeks ago. Did notice the aspect thing. Was hoping Bill Murry had a good part but he had three lines and about ten seconds screen time. I had to sign a release that I would be ......
