Heard about the passing of the great wes wilson. He was best known as one of original s.f. poster artists of the 60s. I could have posted this in visual arts but I felt his impact was related to the bay area music scene. He will be missed.

Loved his work, along with the other San Francisco pioneer graphic artists Griffin, Mouse, Kelly, Moscoso. I started collecting posters in the late-70s with my very first being a Wes Wilson piece for a Byrds show....

Two other favorites....Jefferson Airplane and the Mothers of Invention w/ Otis Rush....

And, below, a poster he designed for “An Exhibition of “Psychedelic Posters” at UC Berkeley in October 1967. Rest In Peace, Wes Wilson.

    He's one of my favorites.

I love his lettering style on his posters, but I can't stand it when a font is used based on his style, especially since it's not vey hard to do it by hand. I sent him an email about it last year and he replied that he wasn't even aware of the font called "Wes Wilson" and had never agreed to it. He said the only font he's been involved with is called "Peace and Love."

That's very sad to hear. I'm currently reading Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution by Patrick Rosenkrantz and early on the poster artists and comic book artists had a huge amount of overlap.

Great story. But I can’t for the life of me understand the adulation for Andy Warhol. He seemed like an absolute nothing.
