Soon I would be seeing tons of shows, including multiple Dead shows. But my first is still special, even if I was a bit old already.

Meanwhile, my daughter by the age of 10 had seen One Direction, R5, The Summer Jam, the Jonas Brothers and more!

I remember hearing a local country music band at a barbecue when I was about 8. First concert I saw by a famous artist was in 1970, age 15 when I saw Steppenwolf. The opening act was Tony Joe White.

At first I thought this thread was aimed at musicians playing their own live gigs. If piano recitals count, I was 9. I was 17 when I started playing my own songs for local live audiences.

My parents took me to plenty of live performances from a very early age. My dad would take me to classical shows and my mom would take me to musicals.

We also saw some "mainstream" entertainers like Bob Hope, Rich Little and Paul Lynde.

My first rock concert - and the first live event I pursued without my parents choosing it - was Kiss in December 1977.

    I was 10!

I want to talk to somebody who saw The Yardbirds at The Crazy Horse on M Street in Georgetown,
and maybe find out more about the little-known Kinks gig at Emergency (1970?)

Fifteen. Went with a group of friends and had a panic attack halfway through the show so I sat in the parking lot on the hood of the car and listened. I just couldn't take being crammed in with that many people. I still get a bit claustrophobic to this day at shows.

When I was two weeks shy of my 12th birthday, I attended Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, featuring the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, and The Band. I'm very sketchy on the details of how this happened, but somehow a friend (who was a year younger than me) had an extra ticket and invited me. None of our parents went with us, instead we were "supervised" by some marginally older relative (cousin? uncle?) of my friend, who himself was probably no older than his early 20s.

Eight -- Black Sabbath in 1972, at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. I still remember the trip downtown, and lots of things about that night, but no distinct musical memories, of course.

But after that, first real concert was Scorpions, AC/DC, and Ted Nugent in 1979. I'd just turned 16. Ted was huge that year.

I answer this in 2 ways. First "show" i saw was this lot, who were a band of sorts, Animal Quackers, live in Slough sometime in the late 70's so when i was 7/8 years old.

But I guess the real answer has to be Eric Clapton, Royal Albert Hall, 11th Feb 1991...............I was 19, sat in the 3rd row. Superb.

Eric Clapton – guitar / vocals
    Greg Phillinganes – keyboards
    Nathan East – bass
    Steve Ferrone – drums
