I drool over any Wavac, EAR and Nagra Amps. Tim De Paravicini is a true living legend. As for Nagra, my friend Steve Guttenberg recently did a review on these amps and raved about them. The craftmanship is superb.

I am also impressed by Claus' Rowland amps and Wilson speakers.

I heard the Nagra beauties at one of the HE200X shows. They were superb.

    Danny, I haven't heard the 890.
Since you are in Long Beach, give Dan Meinwald(EAR USA) a call. He's also in LB.
Perhaps he has an 890 you could check out? :)

Here's my latest toy. Been listening through it for a month.
AES-25 DJH version, 35wpc PP currently SED 6550C output and Amperex 6922 PQ inputs.

Also have an Anthem PVA-5 (125 X 5, solid state) for surround and a soon to be auctioned Lexicon NT512.

Edit: Looks like I need to dust. :shh:

My system is made up of all Bottlehead kits - Seduction phono stage [Telefunken E88CC] Foreplay heavily moddified preamp [Telefunken ECC802S] Paraglow 2A3 monoblocks [TJ 2A3 mesh] - I love the fact that I can mess with various electrical components like attenuators, resistors and capacitors and make a huge improvement in the sound.

I'm using SED's, with the flying C logo which are supposed to be the same as the older Svet's.

I've been toying with the idea of trying out some KT-88's but I haven't figured out what to try. My amp originally came with KT-88's but there were 6CA7's in it when I picked it up used.

The Dynaco MKIII's I am waiting for, have quite a different chasis that all of the ones I have seen,,,More space, the heater switch, and big 4 caps...These are the only Dyna's i saw with the larger caps...

These units were owned by Ralph Karsten (OTL Atma-Sphere), then sold to Chris Ossanna (Audio Research). Dual 6550's, Altec style front end. About 60-70w each.
Those are GE, Mullards, Amperex and RCA cleartop .

That thing looks like it's left over from Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel days.

Actually it's quite nice sounding; but the tube replacement situation is critical, as is the heat factor.

I counted 52 looking at their website--there is another row of tubes closer to the front panel you can't see from the front view. (And seeing that there are side panels, there may be yet another row.)

Definitely a basement amp. Gets mighty chilly down there. :D

I'm currently using Svetlana 6550C. I have 6 Mark IIIs so if I ever want to go to HT I have a 5.1 system :).

I also have GEC KT88s, Sylvania 6550A, ...Mullard (original?) GZ34 rectifier tubes.

The Audio Society of Mn (www.visi.com/~asm) had Glacier Audio present this equipment and I thought it sounded very nice (AtmaSpere pre and amp, Gilmore speakers).

A friend of mine has Atma Spere gear and I really like it. My *cheap* Dynaco stuff isn't in the same league but I like it.

The MA3 may not be for everyone but even the "little" M60s are very nice.

Great place you guys have here. Been spending some time lurking in the software section and only just started looking in here.

Presently I have a pair of Classe DR2VHC's driving ML CLSII's and a pair of Classe DR9's driving Maggie Bass Panels. I have my setup in a large basement room which allows me to get some pretty impressive SPL's.

At a conservative estimate of $20.00 per tube, the cost would be $1040.00 for tube  replacement!

Holy cow! Another Classe owner. Welcome to Steve's Metronome. I've never seen, or heard of the DR-7 pre. How does it differ from my DR-6?

    Thanks for the welcome, Dave.

Yeah, I'm a huge Classe fan as you can probably tell. The old stuff, not the new.

The DR7 was David Reich's (thus DR designation) all out attempt at reaching pre-amp nirvana. He came pretty close with this baby I suspect. These guys are very tough to find. I bought mine used from the owner of an audio store in Whitby Ontario years ago and haven't heard anything better since. Compared to the DR6 I find the DR7 to have a more luscious midrange and a quieter MC section.

Cary CAD-300SEI. Integrated SET amp, 15wpc. Currently running TJ/Full Music/Sophia meshplate 300B output tubes -- the ceramic base, gold pin version. Love it! Shunyata Guardian 4-HT as a stopgap for power line conditioning -- discontinued cheapie version of the Hydra, with surge protection. One day I'll look into balanced power or something like that.
