  5. 'All My Colours'. Always a focal point of their live sets. Always loved by the fans, in the U.K anyways. They made it their finale piece when they performed it at Peter Gabriel's inaugural WOMAD festival at Shepton Mallett in the early eighties. They had The Burundi Drummers playing on stage with them. I was impressed.
Heaven Up Here has that signature Bunnymen sound with Sargent's guitar and De Freitas' drums. Never met any British fans who got excited by 'The Killing Moon'.

  7. While I love All My Colors, in the U.S. Never got airplay (unless on an alternative station) I also don't hear the song used in movie, etc.

the original post was about a band's "Stairway To Heaven", I.e., for me KM is meets all the criteria. "The Killing Moon" was a top 10 hit in the U.K., (although it wasn't a requirement for this thread) got a lot of alternative radio air play in the U.S. and has been used in many movies. "All My Colors" not so much. Hey, it's from my fav album by them bought back in 1981. Great song, great album but I guarantee that more folks bought "Ocean Rain" that had never heard of them before just from that track. "All My Colors" not so much (I've always liked "Over The Wall" and "A Promise" better than thwn both Killing Moon and "Colors" hence my choice.

Are you asking what songs besides Stairway To Heaven are forbidden in Guitar Stores?

Wrong. They was not a hit at all or even a popular Rolling Stones song. I like the song but it's importance is out of wack on this site.

I submit The Clash's "London Calling". It's not their biggest hit (they would come later) but it is the title track of the album they are probably most known for by the mass audience. It is also a song that articulates the band's raison d'etre. And it's the only Clash song ever covered by Bob Dylan.

This - which is what I call the Danish Stairway to Heaven.

    Dizzy Mizz Lizzy's Silverflame.

Huge hit at the time and has become their signature song. Has the Zep Stairway to Heaven trademarks, slow song with acoustic opening, builds and builds, very memorable melodies, incredible guitar solo:

Over the years Tim (the guitarist/singer/songwriter) has snuck in the signature Silverflame guitar riff live into other songs to get audiences revved up. And in recent years with the band being "reactivated" (as he calls it) he's started the song with a some bars of a cover version first leading into it (like Bobby Blue Bland/Whitesnake's version of Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City) which is pretty cool.

I have to flip a coin for Jackson Browne. Either The Pretender or The Load Out.
I'll also say Thin Lizzy's Cowboy Song could fit. I wish there was a long live version that starts with just acoustic guitars.

“Don’t You Forget About Me” is without a doubt their signature song / most well known song in the UK.

This one ticks all the boxes.

    O'Jays - Stairway to Heaven

    Epic. Classic. Soul.
Ray said it was the black national anthem,
and I was in no positition to argue!

Considered "Ship Ahoy"and "Living for the Weekend,"
but this seemed to meet the OP's criteria best.

Not all that long but meets the other criteria for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ own Stairway.
