Yes, that is very EPIC. And I've probably listened to it more than all of the other stuff mentioned so far.
And I love a lot of the stuff mentioned.

It clocks inn at 5:53 and continues to float in your mind for approximately two more hours...it's epic...

  5. My personal faves are two oft overlooked little gems from Van der Graaf Generator.

The first from H to He, Who Am The Only One (1970)

    Pioneers Over c.

  6. and the second from their World Record LP (1976)

    Meurglys III, The Songwriters Guild

It's epic but not what most people would call prog.

I'm lukewarm on some of it as well, but for them to have made an album with that good material at that point in time... I can't ask for much more. :)

Love "Pioneers Over C", one of their most haunting epics. I like "Meurglys" too, though I could live without the reggae jam at the end.

    King Crimson-Lizard (Side 2 Suite)
    Jethro Tull-Thick As A Brick
    ELP-Tarkus

I'll throw in a few zingers here:

Chicago-The "Make Me Smile" side of Chicago 2. I know they aren't thought of as a prog band but by any definition what they were doing up to Chicago 8 is definitely progressive only with different ingredients in the soup so to speak. It's kind of what I would call Americanized Prog.

    Renaissance- Ashes Are Burning

Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe-Quartet and Order Of The Universe

Moody Blues-Side 2 of Days Of Future Passed (have to get DOFP in here somewhere)

Absolutely!! Add this one too. Not as sprawling as La Villa but great prog instrumental nonetheless.

Another one that probably falls in the "Art Rock" category rather more than trad "Prog", it is epic though... Bjørn Riis-"Lullaby In A Car Crash"

My personal favourite is 'Supper's Ready' - 23 minutes of sheer nonsense! Many of you probably know that 'SR' was a merging of two songs into one epic-length number.
