Just curious which albums are worth getting...I've seen a few recently I'm interested in...
HEART, DREAMBOAT ANNIE!!!!
Lee , I really like my Neil Young Harvest lp.I think its up there as one of the the best. Threshold of a Dream I really like also. FWIW Tom Port recommends it( the Threshold)
.Both records sound amazing .
Great feedback, thanks.
I just put Heart, Dreamboat Annie on hold.
I'll second or third "On the Threshold of a Dream". I also like "Love Stinks" by the mighty J. Geils Band. Sorry I was channeling Martha Quinn there for a moment.
I like the Little Feat and Neil Young titles
Was the Cars 1st album on Nautalis? I have a 1/2 speed master of that but can't remember who put it out. It never sounded very good to me.
I would say that the 2 Police LPs - Zenyatta and Ghost -- are quite good. Anybody else agree?
I've got John Lennon - Double Fantasy but I've not heard it... It's sealed.
What are you waiting on? Open that puppy up and have a listen.
Police, Doobie Brothers
Yes, the Police albums sound good to me. If you're a Doobie Brothers fan, "The Captain and Me" on Nautilus is good too. Lot of varied opinions on Fleedwood Mac "Rumours". I like it.
I meant Fleetwood, not Fleadwood. Seem to remember Linda Ronstadt's "
Simple Dreams" sounding pretty good too.
Yes, Nautilus put that one out. I have it too, but since it's the only copy of the album I've ever owned I can't compare it with anything else.
I haven't heard that mastering but I have Steve's DCC CD of THE CARS and it doesn't sound real good to me either, this is the only DCC I've bought so far that I've seriously considered selling. I don't think it has anything to do with Steve's mastering, mind you - this is probably as good as that record will ever sound. I just don't care much for the sound of the original recording. Even back as a kid in 8th grade when it came out I thought the sound was suboptimal (though I loved the tunes).
I have only one Nautilus title "Diana" by Diana Ross. Don't know if it is essential but a friend of mine had "Life Beyond L.A." by Ambrosia and it(from memory) sounded great.
I think they did Cornerstone, Paradise Theater, and Pieces of Eight by Styx.
I have Cornerstone, but it has a lot of distortion on "Babe"...I think whoever owned it, played that track too often with a poor stylus and thrashed it. It was as maddening as buying the MoFi Sinatra "Nice 'N' Easy" that someone owned who put a few good scratches in it. This isn't the 50s where you stack it on the changer in your console!
Yup Nautilus. Not so good..........Another one I have and don't care for is The Doobies - The Captain and Me
Hmmmmmmm, I think The Cars DCC sounds excellent. i also think the original Cars vinyl sounds great..........
Any estimate for what a good copy goes for used?
Yes, and I agree.
Seems like I had a Styx album that was very good. But cant remember the title. Not much into them so I sold it years ago.
Be careful Lee. Not everything sounds good on the half speed stuff. Only a few of them really.Maybe 4 or 5. The rest are wonky.Ive had them all at one point or another when I thought half-speeds were the bomb.
Those I mentioned I dont think will disappoint.
The Doobies Brothers - "Captain and Me" on Nautilus is a bit "hot". Sure wish DCC or AF could have done it -- one of my favorite LPs.
