Angus & Julia Stone - Down the Way--primarily because of the song Yellow Brick Road but I like the whole album
Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain--Mark Hollis once said it was one of his favorite albums
Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon--because it's an awesome album
Otis Redding - Lonely and Blue...--I usually don't buy compilations, but this is one I could have made myself. It collects my favorite Otis songs onto one album.
Mandolin Orange - Such Jubilee--Just discovered them last year and think they're great

A lot of Latin heat in a genre I had shamefully overlooked. I didn't realize the depth and scope of amazing Latin talent in New York City from the 60's through the early 80's.

    Laura Gibson—La Grande
    Laura Gibson—Beasts of Season
Laura Gibson—If You Come to Greet Me

I had a sudden realization that I didn't have any Laura Gibson on vinyl, which was bad because she's been one of my favorite singer songwriters for the past decade and all of her LPs are out print. La Grande and Beasts of Season are still out in the world at normal retail prices, but I snagged the last normal retail priced copy of If You Come to Greet Me on Discogs. I have a sneaking suspicion that the release of her 4th LP in April will only make these harder to come by. I have never bought three LPs by the same artist in one fell swoop before, this may have been the moment when I became a collector.

R.E.M.—Talk About the Passion 12" single.

This sounds great, and has a couple of songs from Chronic Town. I believe this was a UK release that served to introduce the band to the British around the time that Murmur came out. R.E.M.'s 12 inch singles are interesting, I may track some more down.

    Various—O Carnaval Chegou!

I like to check out thrift stores in different cities when I travel to see what the regional flavor is... I was super excited to find this compilation featuring Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil and other heroes of Tropicalia at a Goodwill outside of Miami. It was the first LP I even looked at and it was beyond my expectations. Sadly, it was the only thing remotely South American that I found. This LP is all Brazilian parade music for carnival.
