Dark was the night, cold was the ground - Blind Willie Johnson

Carl Sagan had this song burned into the "Golden" record and sent into outer space on Voyager Discover in 1977.

When aliens finally hear this song, we'll get a message back saying simply: "Send more Blind Willie Johnson!"

Well, the obvious choice is Nugent's "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" LOL!!!

    But seriously folks, how about:

Ryan Adams: "La Cienega Just Smiled"

    An achingly beautiful song...

Haven't read through the thread yet, but I thought I'd post this while it's on my mind.

The lyrics paint such a vivid picture of a woman's recollections of her youth at the seashore.

I never knew about this wonderful voice until a friend turned me on to Somewhere Over the Rainbow a couple of years ago. I too get the chills.

Hard to believe that Enya didn't get mentioned until @SonyTek 's post yesterday. I am going to mention three of her songs from Shepherd Moons, although she has so many beautiful songs in her career.

You know for over two decades I just took the band name "Notting Hillbillies" at face value. It was only a few months ago that "Notting Hill" hit me like an extra large cream pie in the face.

Okay, last one, at least for tonight. Going through this thread and listening to so many beautiful songs, I've become quite emotional. And while watching this video, I finally broke down and had tears streaming down my face. The power of music, eh? If only the whole world could be so moved . . . .

A long time favourite. The rest of the band hated the song, never performed the song live, the album it's on is OOP & as far as I know, it's never been on a compilation. More here: I Love You by Climax Blues Band Songfacts
