I like a lot of the lesser-known traditional religious carols. "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella", "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree", "A Spotless Rose", "Fum Fum Fum", etc.

Man, I love this one -- It's from 1973, and it's got "1973" written all over it.

Red Lights (Merry Christmas) has made many of the Christmas comps I've made over the years. It's a very good jangle pop Xmas original.

It was also released as a promo CD, in addition to the vinyl 45...

Maybe not the most obscure, but perhaps the most unexpected. When I heard it last night on some internet radio Christmas station, I thought it was a country singer. Almost couldn't handle the truth :)

    Cheers!

    I'm a big fan of Davitt Sigerson's "It's a Big Country":

Maybe not obscure enough for this crowd, since it was on A Very Special Christmas 3, but Blues Traveler's own composition, simply entitled 'Christmas' is one of my all-time favorite songs, not just holiday songs. Love the use of Phish's Divided Sky on this (and yes, Trey Anastasio is listed as a co-writer because of this)

Not so much an obscure song, but an obscure recording of a Christmas song.

The song is listed as "Noel Ukrainien / Carol of the Bells: Noel ukrainien"

By La Petite Bande de Montreal - Martin Dagenais

Track 18, from the CD: En la Fete de Noel (Carols from French Canada)

    A Naxos recording DDD 8.554435

While we're on the subject of Francophone, does anybody know any great French songs beyond 'Il Est Ne..." and "Bring A Torch..."?

Now playing on http://www.arielstream.com/]Ariel Stream[/URL]: I Giant Leap - Braided Hair
