In the spirit of Dr. Demento, I am wondering what are your favorite demented hits. I used to listen to the show evey week, back in the 80's and I have a lot of the songs, but would love some memory joggers from the Dr.'s other fans.

Would appreciate it, if you would post sources for any songs you share, if you know them. Some of my favorites are...

    1. Do You Think I'm Disco - by Steve Dahl - source - 45 RPM record
    2. Making Love In A Suburu - by Damaskas - source - Demntia Royale Rhino LP
    3. Junkfood Junkie - Larry Groce - Dr. Demento Vol 1. The Mid 70s CD

If you mean the Tom Lehrer song, it is Poisoning Pigeons in the Park. If not, sorry.

I always liked Star Dreck. Don't know the source.

I've got this in both mono (on 45) and stereo (on CD). To make a mono needle drop, I recorded the b-side and reversed it. I love that.

You mean like "Sit On My Face, Stevie Nicks" and stuff like that? "Fish Heads", etc.?

Not really my cup of tea but I did like "Stairway To Gilligan's Island" and some of the tamer Dr. Demento songs like "Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell.

"Stairway to Heaven" was a good one. I always thought that was such bulls@@@ that Led Zeppelin sued the crap out of the songwriters over that, and prevented it from being commercially released.

    My novelty faves include:

"Disco Duck (Part 1)" - Rick Dees & His Cast of Idiots
"Existential Blues" - Tom "T-Bone" Stankus
"I Saw Elvis in a UFO" - Ray Stevens
"Saturday Morning Confusion" - Bobby Russell
"Smells Like Nirvana" - 'Weird Al' Yankovic
"Snoopy's Christmas" - The Royal Guardsmen

I like "Smells Like Nirvana" more than I do "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The first time I heard Weird Al's version, I almost careened off the road in my car, I was laughing so hard. Incredible video, too, and Al's production is dead-on perfect.

I love that song too! I'd love to hear a remake with Mike Doughty singing lead.
