Fantastic year

1. Smashing Pumpkins - Gish (my favorite album of theirs, really important album for me)

1991 was for me a sort of transitional year, when grunge was first getting my real attention, some of my favorite country/roots acts did not release an album, and I grew less enchanted with some bands I'd previously loved, who put out underwhelming efforts or ones I did not like for various reasons, like Weld by Neil Youg (could not get into it) Achtung Baby (very popular, but for me my transition away from their direction) and the Stones and Aerosmith (efforts that put me to sleep). but at the same time Buddy Guy had his huge comeback, Jeff Beck's awesome compilation came out that year, and further down Bonnie Raitt put out a very competent album well into her career. Pear Jam's Ten was my intro to them, beginning my great fandom for them, and the less known Chris Whitley's debut challenged them for best album of the year for me. Patty loveless and Vince Gill covered my country input for the year as well. So here's my list in rough order of preference.
