I've always picked Let It Bleed, but I think Their Satanic Majesties Request is now my favorite whole album.

So, where's Through the Past, Darkly?

It's a Rolling Stone album, too. And happens to be my favourite.

I'm sure compilation albums were not included or the list would be too long as there were different compilation in different countries. Even Through the Past Darkly had a different track listing in the U.S. and U.K.

Correct. Compilation albums were not included, otherwise it would go on forever.
'Flowers' is also a compilation, though I'm sure it would be among many people's favourites, if it was counted as an album. Stones compilations is worthy of a dedicated thread itself.

I knew that would be the answer. :) But not one RS album excites me as much as a whole as the UK version Through the Past Darkly. Full of great songs.

Some comp are classic. And those comps are classic era classic comps. Darkly, with tracks not on albums and collecting the great Jones era Stones material into one place. Surely an exception in the natural order of things.

It's always puzzled me why the UK version of No.2 was always missed out in the CD remasters. It was a very successful album in the UK and has a great sleeve (these things do matter!). Hopefully the mono box will soon appear as separate vinyl & CD releases.

Tattoo You because it's the first I bought in real time. More partial to Now! and Aftermath these days, though.

I kmow, but the Chess tracks + Everybody Needs Somebody To Love are far superior in Stereo, a true revelation, and should be listened to in that way. But each to their own, of course.

You're not alone. I want to like it but still won't open up for me 37 years after buying my first copy.

IMO Exile is their triumph, and is maybe The Great Rock Album. Everything preceding, with the exception of Satanic Majesties, anticipates it, and all that follows is a tailing off, and then a precipitous drop.

I never really felt the love for Satanic Majesties, but everything else from Aftermath to Exile is a masterpiece.

12 people prefer Bridges To Babylon and A Bigger Bang over Exile and Sticky Fingers.

Think about that for a minute...

Aftermath, Between The Buttons, Satanic Majesties, Beggar's Banquet, and Sticky Fingers.

If Flowers was a choice, I would've picked that too.

As far as most-played these days, I'd honestly have to go with Between The Buttons.
It's the closest that they ever got to doing a London-centric 'Kinks'-style album.

Black and Blue. So many great grooves and the best sounding to boot. Just about every track jams out, apart from the sublime hit single.

Really nothing over played on it either.

Black And Blue...underrated even to this day. I'm glad that the guys were big Meters fans in the '70s.

I like Flowers but thought it would have been more interesting and useful if they deleted the tracks duplicated on other lps along with My Girl and replaced them with rarer tracks from the same time period like Long, Long While, Sad Day, What To Do and Who's Driving Your Plane for example.
