The Late era Stooge thread got me thinking about this.
In the land of what if, if you could have plugged in any comedian of your choice of the past 30 years with Moe and Larry, who would you choose.
I'm thinking John Belushi and Chris Farley both would have been great possible replacements for Curly and Shemp. Not to imitate Curly or Shemp, but to bring their own "thing" to the trio.

    Who would you pick?

Jim Carrey. He was just made for vaudeville-style slapstick comedy and goofy facial expressions.

There was and will only ever be, for me, the original Moe, Shemp and Curly Howard.

    That leaves Larry...

Jason Alexander, from Seinfeld, would be a good Larry.

Albert Brooks would be a great Larry.

Although not really a comedian, but, the late Wild Man Fischer would have made a great Larry.

doesn't really look the part, but I think Billy Crystal would have been good

There's no way Jim Carrey would have been bad, but he doesn't project the right amount of "dimness" that some others would, imo.

Buddy Hackett could have been pretty good too, I think. I can definitely picture him with his facial expressions fitting the bill.

    Larry David as "Larry":

Those old 1980s Fridays sketches will never be syndicated, because of the massive amounts of drug jokes. I tell ya, I fell down laughing at the thought of a modern Three Stooges completed blitzed out on coke. Hey, it was funny in 1980. "Moe, Larry, blow! Moe, Larry, blow!"

As god is my witness, I worked with Larry for a couple of hours 20 years later, and got to tell him, "man, you were the best Larry Fine ever."
