    Just bloody awful.
Years ago when working on the table saw, in the garage one day, my girlfriend asked why I had an ear muff type hearing protector around my neck.
I told her it was in case Styx came on the radio.

They had 4 consecutive multi-platinum albums in the US over a 4 year period. 3 of those went triple platinum.

They were one of my favorites as a young kid back in the 80's. I still have the albums but never play them. I just don't think they held up as well as a lot of other bands. That being said, I can't bring myself to part with those old albums so there's obviously something still there.

Some of the people who hate Styx in this thread are surprising me with how dramatic they sound. I mean, I don't like Styx either but "nails on a chalkboard, and that's just the singer..." come on, man. Even my 11 year old daughter thinks that's over-dramatic.

Styx apparently killed a lot of people's dogs. People don't just dislike them, they hate them with a burning passion. So weird.

I totally get, what you mean. However, I personally would really miss quite some great tunes, they have produced after it!

I like at least 1 song on each record (with the exception of Big Bang And cyclosomething, which I never have listened too).

And yes, I have also posted on the „Heaviest doom appreciation thread“.

A lot of people in the world have problems. And one day, they will sort out, that writing hate posts on internet boards won’t solve there problems.

bet Brittney Spears moved a lot of product in the US too. Doesn't make her any good.

People who hate on Styx are generally the kind of guys who use Rock as an identity badge, and Styx isn't in their club.

There's always backlash when an artist sells 10 million albums, but Styx also made some great stuff here and there. Deal with it.

They're named after a river in Greek Mythology the separates the earth from Hades.
Hades in Greek Mythology is not the same as the traditional western view of Hell and Styx river isn't in Hades but between two places.

The guy asked if Styx was big in the states. I provided statistics showing just how big. While I enjoy Styx I was not making a point of their quality in my post.

And Britney Spears is a pop artist with people to write and produce her songs for her and every other aspect of her product as well. She's sold a lot more than Styx. Styx is a rock band.

I remember their metal ballad "Lady" from 1975 IIRC and I thought it quite catchy. Following year I saw them second on a bill that included Skyhooks (beezarre) and Uriah Heep. I was very impressed by the "show" band they turned out to be and I believe that was true for most attending.

Having said that I have to admit none of their titles have ended up in my collection. I will say I enjoyed their show much more than I did a Blues Traveler show I saw in the early 2000s. They tend to appeal to a middle class, blue-collar audience and maybe that's why some folks that might have more... discerning tastes don't embrace them. Might be true for me. They were at one point extremely successful and that can't be taken away.

Way back in early 80's or so. I would have been 7 or 8 years old. Dad's co-worker left the cas. tape of their album in my dad's car stereo. Dad kept playing it for a few weeks. I remember liking "Boat On River" song.
Never really heard or cared about them since.
