My father-in-law and I met Dave Alvin at a hotel in St. Joseph, Michigan before he played The Livery (next door in Benton Harbor) with The Guilty Men. Great guy and it was an amazing show. (I don't think any of them were thrilled with the sub-zero temps though...) :righton:

As a journalist and part time actor, my experience of "celebrities" is sometimes less then satisfying: neurotic, incredibly insecure, spoilt human wrecks, and that's the pretty side. I'm totally aware I'm widely generalising.

I've worked with, interviewed or became friendly with the majority of my childhood heroes though, among them:

    Bowie
    Blondie
    Philip Glass
    Peter Gabriel
    Bryan Ferry
    Eurythmics
    Damon Albarn (twit)
    Pet Shop Boys
    Sparks
    Marc Almond
    Morrissey
    Scott Walket
    Lou Reed
    Pete Burns
    Ian McCulloch
    Grace Jones
    Donna Summer
    George Michael
    Boy George
    Siouxsie Sioux
    Steve Strange
    Suede
    Oasis
    Adam Ant

Kate Bush (met only briefly), Jacko and Madonna escaped me, though M did have my Bowie book on her Marble Arch coffee table for a while, and Boy George told me he bought two copies of it.

Me and Randy Jackson of Zebra at the airport a few weeks ago. We shared the same flight from New Orleans to NY. Talked for a good twenty minutes during the lay over. He couldn't have been nicer and I am a huge fan so it made my trip home! Have talked to him a few times before at solo gigs and he is always warm and engaging.

Hope you're not thinking of asking Gene Simmons to do that at your meet and greet. Remember his time is always money!

Literally hundreds of them. I've worked in the music industry in one way, shape or form since 1979. The first performer I met was probably Rachel Sweet when we did an in-store with her at Peaches. Personal highlights include Terry Bozzio, Patrick O'Hearn, Steve Vai, Ike Willis and tons of others ex-Zappa sidemen, a few ex-members of King Crimson, David Bowie, Andy Partridge, Lindsey Buckingham, Joe Satriani, Lou Reed, Mick Jones (The Clash), Primus, Yes, Allan Holdsworth, David Torn, Mick Karn, Monster Magnet, Nick Oliveri, Jeff Buckley, Sammy Hagar, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. And while I'm not a fan of her music, you can add Katy Perry to the list.
