They are on his touring payroll. Plus, he gave them all a six figure severance package in 1989, when he disbanded the E Street Band for the first time.

If you ever want to hear some badass country guitar playing, look up Bill Kirchen. If you can look up his version of Hot Rod Lincoln up on the utube. He uses that Don Rich telecaster sound to mimic everything from Sabbath to punk and does a very entertaining job of it.
He's the dude that did the guitar work on the original.

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

That is a very nice thing for him to do, but it pretty much supports my original point in that the songwriter (Bruce in this case) gets the lion's share of the dough. Normally members of a backing band don't get a paycheck when not recording or touring.

Son House stopped playing guitar in the 50s and worked for the NY Central Railroad as a chef until he was rediscovered in 1964 and 'retaught' guitar by Alan Wilson.

There are many similar examples of early blues men, but consider Zuzu Bolin: left music and spent an entire career as a public school janitor, through retirement. He was later rediscovered. I enjoyed seeing him play and meeting him in early 1990s.

Nah, they're just trying to sound 'current,' while simultaneously rejecting everything that made them cool in their prime.

Denny Diaz, ex-Steely Dan guitarist, is a software developer. I worked with someone who worked with him at a previous company.

Men Without Hats became Men Without Jobs...enough comedy.

Josh Silver, Ex Type O Negative, became a paramedic.

Guy Kozowyk, ex The Red Chord, became a Police Officer.

Tony Blair, Ex Ugly Rumors, became the UK Prime Minister.

Elvis Presley, Ex Solo Artist, Became an Actor (i Lied about enough comedy.)

David Jackson, ex Vandergraft Generator, became a special needs teacher.

Peter Garrett, Ex Midnight Oil, became a politician.

Peter Green, ex Fleetwood Mac, became a gravedigger. ( I think.)

Terminator X, Public Enemy, Became an ostrich framer.

Kathleen allegedly faced scrutiny from the media with regards to her personal life. She left husband Colin Cripps for Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, he produced her most recent album and then the two were no longer a couple. While she takes a break from writing/recording/touring, it would be nice if Kathleen could release some archival stuff. Maybe an expanded reissue of Building 55 or maybe a series of live albums (full band would be nice).

Neat! I saw Sam and his solo band about 10 years ago at an oldies package festival with The Box Tops. Later saw him at a club around 2007 or 2008. Always wished he would join the Happy Together 1960s oldies package tour with The Turtles.

I think you're probably right. I think Lou is going off old information. It was pretty apparent in his tone that he and Davis don't communicate.

It's just down the road from my home, I've become a semi-regular -- they make excellent coffee. It is a bit surreal the first time to have Kathleen make you a coffee after seeing her on stage so many times, but she is a great small business owner (she's almost always there). Really personable, involved in the community. I hope she does return to making music, but she seems to be having a pretty good time running the coffee shop. A number of touring bands stop in when in Ottawa, maybe she'll expand the focus a bit and host some music (though it's not a very big shop).

A very remarkable change of career:

Jason Everman, the first guitarist of Nirvana (and later Soundgarden) became... a green baret with serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. After an honourable discharge in 2006 (and a special recommendation of general McChrystal) he started to study and got a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy.

In July 2013 The New York Times published a portrait ('The Rock'n roll casualty who became a War Hero') about his life:

There is nothing redeeming about it in the slightest and it is offensive to City of San Francisco. The City was built long before "rock" (indeed, many feel that its best era was the 1950s beat/North Beach scene) and Grace & Co. was well aware of that. I was in college when it was a hit. If ever there was a reason necessary for the rise of indie/college rock, it was to provide an alternative to dreck like that. I would disown anyone I knew who has it in their collection. Easily the nadir of 80s numbskull rock. If anyone wonders why Gracie quit music to take up painting, there it is. Imagine carrying that kind of guilt around... :)

  23. I don't know if you can even call that near-tuneless assortment of synth stabs and programmed (or at least very programmed-sounding) drums "rock".

Did anyone mention Mark Hollis yet? My guess is living off his back catalogue. The fact that the occasional cover of his compositions or re-release still sell nicely should help.

He was a guest at a Dutch talk show with the premiere about the documentary about his life. His daughter did all the talking, he was just a bit hidden in the audience and politely but sternly refused to sing/sing along to a cover that was played of a sing of him. He looked very much like someone who had his fill of the music business and was quite happy to be out of the limelight...
