....oh, my new BD came with the DC 2nd disc....instead of just codes like I thought I heard someone say about another release....that might of been Warner...???

  2. I watched one of my bargain HD DVD's, "Van Helsing". I like the movie a lot better than most people. The thing I like most is that is the filmmaker was respectful of the classic Universal horror films. Picture quality and DD+ audio quality are about average, probably better than average for Universal.

Nope, it's Lions Gate (The Bank Job). The code is on an insert card.

How much is Target charging for it?

My mummy gave $30 for it. It has a second disc that says Digital Copy. There is a code on an instruction card. I heard some BD's and DVD's are coming with Digital Copy sans physical media. I don't think I've gotten one of 'em yet.

New to the thread as I just got my B-R player, a PS3, yesterday. I got 3 movies for free when I bought my HDTV a month ago but my 1st movie purchase was "Casino Royale".

If you liked it at all, you liked it better than most people!

I picked up the "Bank Job" BD on a lark when I was in Wal-Mart to get something else. I actually almost bought a Profile 1.1 Samsung 1500 blu-ray player (for the bedroom) on a lark also while there... but thought better about that. :)

  11. Van Helsing is a fun romp if you don't take it too seriously.

I thought Underworld was way worse. I actually turned that one off.

The worst one I've seen in this vein the last few years is Constantine. I had it in the early days of HD-DVD. I viewed it twice and traded it to a reviewer for an 8-stack of his screener DVD's.

What a disjointed mess of a film. The only remotely intresting thang is the Spearhead of Longinus, "the spear of destiny", the one alleged to have pierced Christ's side at the cruxifiction, putting him out of his misery. That line of the plot just deadends abruptly. The rest is just some dialog to justify the special defects.

Constantine is not as pathetic as Battlefield Eearth...which I'm starting to view as some akin to Plan Nine From Outer Space more and more, as time goes by. It's purr-dy poor though. Maybe it would of been better with both Bill and Ted?

John Mayer concert blu came from tower.com today.

Was supposed to be getting a Dead Can Dance SACD at the same time but they're delaying that. tower.com is off my list now, going back to amazon. Their customer support people are rather rude and obnoxious too. When I buy something indicated as "In Stock" I expect shipment. And of course my card has been billed the full amount, including the unshipped item. I'll be keeping the blu disc sealed for awhile in case I decide to send all this tower.com stuff back.

  15. Funny but maybe true. I like silly movies and that one is really silly, the CGI is a bit much but I sure don't get all the criticism the film receivers. It seems to me that anybody that would start to watch something as silly as that movie wouldn't be expecting anything other than what it is. It was exactly as I expected and therefore can't find much to criticize since I decided to watch it.

AC/DC 'Live At Donington' on Blu.

A vast improvement in compression artifacts over the DVD. It's a 50GB disc.

    A definitive 'vintage' concert disc.

    BD: "Black Hawk Down"

(are these two the SAME movie?!?! )

    I have too brag (again)...
got the original SD DVD of "HELP!" for ten bucks!!!

"BHD" looks & sounds GREAT; just that it omits the GREAT doc from The History Channel that the SE had. :thumbsdn:

Finally got Universal's last HD-DVD release, Atonement. £2.99 delivered - less than the price of a pint! It's going to be painful paying Blu-Ray prices after this.

  19. I have purchased firesale HD DVD's too but to be fair, the only reason the prices are so low is because the format failed. If Blu-ray had lost, would you be complaining about how painful it is to pay HD DVD prices for HD DVD. Blu-ray and HD DVD prices were about the same during the format war. The combo HD DVD/DVD prices were a little higher usually. The loser gets liquidated, the winner moves on but with competition, I am finding plenty of great prices on Blu-ray releases. I am paying about $15 average per Blu-ray, catalog titles less and new releases more. That is better than I thought would be possible at this point.

Absolutely Chris - there are firesales because it is a dead format. I would be buying BD releases right now had BD lost the format war too. I am not complaining about higher prices of BD - there are some good deals to be had and it is a quality product - but, I have got used to paying so little for HDM that it's going to be quite an adjustment to make.

BD pricing now is analogous to DVD prices circa 1999-2000, so it is not too out of whack. Just like then, there are deals to be had if you watch the sales and promotions carefully.

I watched 27 Dresses last night. My big system is down right now as the 805 is off for a firmware upgrade. It looked good on my bedroom set. It's an above average romantic comedy. It's one some of ya'all might wanna buy or rent for you la femme.

La postina just dropped off an Amazonian copy of The Sand Pebbles BD which I hope to make time to watch in the next couple of days. It's been a decade or so since I've viewed the film and I've never owned it on any format.

The Harry Potter Blu's are a huge improvement over the dvds, especially the last one (which was rather long), the dvd is very pixelated, the blu is incredible!

Is it true that "the bank job" is region free?

I've noticed it being sold as RF on ebay, if this can be confirmed I'll buy it! (It's just started its cinema run this week over here!)

It doesn't say. The UK version has a better looking cover picture. Don't know if it's region free either, or can you play B?
