Sure. I mean relative to the general population, it’s not popular. Audiophiles seem to dig it.

Count me among the population of Forums folks who thinks $125 for two songs per side, 45RPM double of Texas Flood is completely out to lunch! Nuts! (Or for our European colleagues, barmy!) And I own more than a few MoFi LPs and CDs, including, yes, a few Silver Series releases.

I love Stevie Ray Vaughn, but cannot and will not pay $125 for a copy of this release. No way.

Especially when a great copy exists for the "steal" (in comparison) of $55...

When the Sound Lab banner is there instead of the Master Recording banner, it means that they weren't able to confirm that they had the master tape. It doesn't mean that they definitely didn't use the Master. I was told this by an employee at Music Direct.

I heard and read the same thing about Santana. Now people scramble to buy it at $700. Lol

  6. Ha. Well said and I feel the same as you about these sets. However I just paid over $400 for that big McCartney Wild Life/ RRS set. But there is a lot more cool content and cool art books. :tiphat:

But to each his own poison. Sinus never judge but these do seem excessive. .

Mofi does not have a future! Probably the same way as AF.

I don't understand why oh why they do not want to do 'Greatest Hits' of 'Best Ofs'

I know if they open their minds and deliver the goods at last with highly praised and best selling classic compilations, they'll be up there back in the game

    I'm thinking about:

    Abba - Greatest Hits
    Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle
Simon & Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Cat Stevens - Very Best of Cat Stevens
    Queen - Greatest Hits
    The Police - Greatest Hits
    Radiohead - The Best of
    etc

    Just to name a few

Rather, they keep recycling the same ol' same ol' all over

Universal Music did an SACD of The Police Singles back in the early 2000's.

And it doesn't sound that great. Plenty of room for improvement.

How about "Chicago - Greatest Hits 1982-1989"? After all, MoFi released "Chicago 17" on 24K gold CD....

    [IMG] [IMG]

Otherwise, I'd take any of the below on MoFi SACDs....

    Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
    Eagles - Their Greatest Hits
    Elvis - Elv1s 30 #1 Hits (previously released on DVD-A)
Van Halen - The Best of Both World
Little River Band - Greatest Hits

Aretha’s Gold was released recently and that’s Greatest Hits.

I believe only a copy / safety tape or production master exists. Same issue with several of the Dylan titles.

AP has an SACD of Elvis 24 Karat Hits, but the DSD is sourced from George Marion's PCM transfer.

A good example of this is the Allman Brothers Fillmore East SACD (I think it sounds better than the LP they released), they told me they weren't certain if it was from the master tape though I imagine it was the same tape that was used on the Japan flat transfer platinum SHM/SHM-SACD reissue that I believe said it was a master from Sterling Sound (someone that has the disc in front of them will have to confirm). Really great transparency from Mofi.

That reminds me of when I ordered my Nordost Vahalla V2 phono cables. The cables are made here in MA, yet they had to send them to the dealer in CA, and then the dealer sent them back to me in MA.

Probably for the same reasons. Reminds me of DCC and the original MFSL, when they went down around the same time. I guess it's really hard to sustain an audiophile label. Just not enough people willing or able to pay the price.

I asked a customer service rep at MD about the state of MFSL and he curtly responded that he has nothing to do with MFSL. Really?

How can the expect to keep their loyal fanbase if the keep issuing the same titles over and over again.

Because of the extra hassle dealing with getting all the original masters, having to splice them into the reel for mastering a greatest hits or best of. And also otherwise, they have to use a second or third generation source tape. Which means that the viable method to do so would be the Silver Series of the past. Titles like this, when they could license them, is why they had the Silver series. Titles in demand and sellable, but don't meet the full requirements for an Original Master Recording. I am in favor of this series being kept, and 140 gram pressings, and sell them at a less expensive price point.

Sure, but AF was issuing a bunch of different stuff.

Early MFSL/DCC had better titles imo.

Probably because it was easier to license titles. MFSL had The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
