According to Discogs FWIW there are 31 digital and vinyl issues for 2017 and 9 so far in 2018. If we extrapolate that would mean about 12 for 2018. So the rate of issue is a bit more than 1/3 of what it was last year.

Also I see Elusive Disc has a heavy sale going on of about 20 MOFI albums but there are 350 SACDS and records listed. So it doesn't seem like a general fire sale.

    That’s listed at $100. Mofi’s One-Step started at $99. They increased it to $125.

MoFi's electronics business seems solid - their phono stages, cartridges and now turntables are well reviewed. I bought a handful of MoFi LPs the past few years but I don't care for what seems to be their warm, slightly veiled house sound. Yikes their Live/Dead and Skull & Roses were tough listens.

An MD representative told me last week that the masters are done. Just waiting for the band's approval and sign off.

I knew you would say this. Music Direct offers free shipping. Acoustic Sounds charges $20.00 for shipping. Very close.

Herein lies the problem. Vinyl reissues are popular at this time. New Pressing machines are being produced. Many young entrepreneurs are opening new pressing plants. Labels are greedy and have their own vinyl reissue programs. No approvals if the band thinks they can make more money elsewhere.

But that’s moving the goal post. Shipping was never part of the discussion.

The middle class is done, and it's only a matter of time before the upper middle class suffers the same fate. Early MoFi's were $25 when standard albums were $7-$8, and average people had more buying power back then, relatively speaking.

$125 for the One-Steps is perfectly logical. The 0.01% is always a safe bet nowadays.

Sorry to sound dumb, but what is the difference between an Original Master Recording banner and
a MFSL banner? An original master tape vs. a copy? Tx.

Not "classic rock" enough. Love to see it though. My favorite of all time.

  13. The MFSL banner are releases from their SILVER label and not guaranteed to be from the Original Master Tapes.

Admit you were wrong. The actual cost is what matters. You said, you didn't know what other label charges that much. Well...there you have it. At least we get two slabs of vinyl with the MOFI. The UHQR is just one slab of vinyl.

The actual cost is $100. Shipping and fees are additional costs.

Not just their Silver label (which they seem to be phasing out)...but many of their premium line.

I wish that they could tackle, on LP (and SACD), Procol's whole catalogue up to and including the 9th (how sweet would that be?) but, alas, we live times that are not presently favorable to such potential awesomeness.

Of course this part of it. Probably the biggest part. This isn’t really news.

Define “successful”. Getting the rights to sell downloads of their masterings would likely be prohibitively expensive or just flat out impossible.

Honestly, why do you think that might be?

Since labels are issuing their own vinyl a lot more often, odds are it would cost a too much to get the rights to issue albums they want.

  25. Because most folks aren’t very adventurous ? :tiphat:
