If you ask four different people you will get four different answers.

I was recently informed that the best sounding version is the West German Harvest set. I hope to aquire one soon. I do know that I do not recommend the MFSL. It's mastered too low and has too much bass in my opinion.

I just have MFSL UDCD 537 UDI, CBS Sony 48DP 5007-8 JPN, and CBS Sony 50DP 361-2 JPN. I give the nod to the 50.

Isn't the 50DP identical to the 48DP so it should be a draw between the two :)

There's no peak room to make it any louder.

The best version of The Wall exists on my HDD and nowhere else

Going from memory they sounded identical on my and a friends gear and IIRC they had the same EAC values so I sold one.

Maybe the memory fails, who knows :) Maybe the EAC values were not the same.

I recently acquired the black face Harvest (Japan) pressing and I prefer it over the Columbia "C2K" and MFSL gold disc.

  18. I would agree with this. In general, I prefer the EMI masterings over the CBS/Columbia masterings. There are quite a few variations for both.

Some of my highly recommended versions:
    Blackface WG Harvest
    Blackface Japan (for UK) Harvest

And, I really like the European remaster, probably my preferred version although the above two are also very nice. If you just want to have a very nice sounding version without spending an arm and a leg, just get the European remaster. It is different from the US remaster (different peak levels, and also different timings, IIRC).

And you will need to wait for the forthcoming re-issue(s) to see how that one compares as well.

Mine as well. It was your recommendation that led me to it. Thanks! My guess is many here won't even give it a shot do one bias or another. Not that I'm immune to anti-remaster bias myself but at least am honest enough to admit it.

Would that be the one listed as a 1994 release at Amazon.uk and Amazon.de ? I assume it is EMI since it is European?

    Thanks in advance Roland.

First, befriend the bank manager. Next, get 'em all. Then, do a shoot-out. Finally, see the therapist. Rinse. Repeat.

    :D
