I know there's several post-2000 music threads, but this one is dedicated strictly to guitar rock, alt rock and heavy rock music of the new millennium. More than ever, it seems to be a type of music that is marginalized in my opinion for the ever-robotic sounds of EDM.

What are some of the greats? I'm going to list some bands that I think represent the best of newer guitar rock, along with what I think are a few of their album highlights.

    - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BMRC, Howl)
    - And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (Madonna, Source Tags & Codes, The Tao Of The Dead)
    - Queens Of The Stone Age (Rated R, Songs For The Deaf, Lullabies To Paralyze)
    - Truckfighters (Gravity X, Phi, Mania)
    - Dungen - (Tat Det Lagnt, 4)
    - Shiner (The Egg)
    - Failure (The Heart Is A Monster)
    - Traindodge (I Am Forever, Supernatural Disasters)
    - Autolux (Future Perfect, P***y's Dead)
    - Radiohead (In Rainbows)
    - Year Of The Rabbit (self-titled)
    - Karnivool (Themata, Sound Awake)
    - Porcupine Tree (In Absentia, Deadwing, Fear Of A Blank Planet, The Incident)
    - Oceansize (Effloresce, Everyone Into Position, Frames)
    - Tame Impala (Inner Speaker, Lonerism)
    - Sonic Youth (Sonic Nurse, Murray Street, Rather Ripped, The Eternal)

I love "S.O.S." by Earl Greyhound from 2007. And it definitely owes a lot to the 70s rock a lot of members love:

Rival Sons are amazing, my favorite of the past ten years for sure. Radio Moscow are pretty damn fine as well.

I can't stop playing Beachwood Sparks The Tarnished Gold (2012).
Their new 'GospelbeacH' spin-off album is pretty enjoyable too.

I like to think I'm fairly with it these days, but these groups I am unfamiliar with (I've heard of some):

The garage rock revival put out some great acts such as The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and the Arctic Monkeys. The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys in particular are still doing great, having both gone psychedelic on their previous albums. I would say The White Stripes' Elephant is the post-2000 peak IMO.

Some great stuff here! I'm especially fond of And You Shall Know Us By The Trail of Dead, QOTSA, and In Rainbows, wherein I don't think Radiohead gets enough credit for rocking....but one of my favorite finds EVER from this forum is Wolf Alice. My favorite comment, one of the few YT comments that doesn't make me sick to my stomach  is "The Nirvana is strong with this one."

    Some from classic artists ascendant....

Bob Mould's last 3 albums have been the strongest run of his career, by a long shot imo, and certainly rock as hard as anything in the punk/postpunk genre ever. If I had to pick one, it might be Beauty and Ruin (a Spotify link, as are the others here) but really, any of the other three (the others being Patch the Sky and Silver Age. (And as I'm listening now on Spotify as I write this, I might need to shift my vote to Patch the Sky...but all three winners for sure....)

The Fall doesn't get enough credit for doing some of their best work in the 21st century, including my all-time favorite, The Unutterable, from 2001.

The absolute last thing I expected from this century was a new album from My Bloody Valentine that holds up with their best, m b v (to the extent that any album by anyone holds up to Loveless, ie not much of anything by anyone). If your ears ain't bleeding, you ain't listening loud enough to hear what's actually happening, so turn it up. No Spotify, so as much as I hate to do it, here it is on YouTube.

Wild card: the debut of Division of Laura Lee, Black City (2002), part of that unlikely Scandinavian punk wave from the early century, a perfect fit for US distributor Epitaph Records. Holds up remarkably well for its page....what with 2002 being 14 years ago. When the hell did THAT happen? :yikes:

Secret Machines had their moments too. Their first album Now Here Is Nowhere (2004) is almost certainly their peak, and the follow up Ten Silver Drops (2006) wasn't bad either.

The best, I don't know, but I have a lot of favorites over this period, post about many of them a lot around here, so I'll just say that Electrelane had a few pretty nice albums during the 2000s and I've been a bit of an Electrelane kick today, some from Axes, some from The Power Out, bunch of concert videos, all great, the below live footage of "Long Dark" from the debut, with a little morphing into "96 Tears" toward the end, pretty cool, Mia Clarke gets kinda wild on her guitar for most of this concert, wonder if she's playing with anyone else now ...

Slash's work on both Velvet Revolver and his solo allbums are of high regard in the traditional "rock guitar" sense.
