It was the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tapdanced with Danny Freakin' Kay!

    ...wait, wrong Christmas movie.

    No, it's 1.85:1:

And every DVD after the very first one included a 1.85:1 version as well...

Was it originally shown in theaters at 1.85:1?

In the context of the movie its funny. Have you seen the movie?

Edit: I see that you have and you don't like it. Different strokes.

As far as I know. 1.33:1 would've been unlikely in 1983, even though it'd kinda make sense for a throwback movie like that...

I remember wanting a bb gun one Christmas. I didn't get it. You can guess why...

I enjoy the film because I can connect my own childhood anticipation for Christmas, like the character Ralph in the movie. It captures the nuances of a child's world well in my opinion.

What you need is to stop being a crybaby. If you're going to post something sarcastic like "guy on Internet doesn't like movie OMG" you need to remember that you can be described the exact same way. And just because *you* think you and your opinion (such as it is) are entitled to more consideration than others doesn't mean others subscribe to that belief.

the whole movie captures a time I FONDLY remember ...it carried over to the 50's and early 60's as well. you had to live it to get it...otherwise to most it's a world unheard of...

I've had the same experience, Michael. But a couple of others on this thread have said that they grew up in the 1980's and still could relate to many things in the movie. It is nice to see that Christmas memories transcend time, at least for some people.

I agree it's absolutely wonderful! I treasure my childhood...sometimes compared to today it's like a dream...

I've never been a huge fan of this movie either.

The director, Bob Clark, made a much, much better holiday film in 1974 called Black Christmas.

Show this to an unsuspecting fan of A Christmas Story if you want them to spit out their egg nog! Great film- laid the groundwork for so many of those 80's slasher films.

Ehhhh, it loses its charm when you realize it recycles bits of previous Ralphie movies, particularly "Phantom Of The Open Hearth."

Not really. Those films are so unknown to so many people and all still based on Sheppard's own writing. And honestly the cast of A Christmas Story fits better than any of the casts in those other films.

Hey, seeing Matt Dillon as Ralphie is actually kinda funny. :)

Yup. That was such a shock to learn back in 1983 - how could the guy who made a raunchy teen comedy turn around and do "Christmas Story"?

Both come with a certain sense of nostalgia, though, and they're period pieces, so maybe they're not as different as they seemed at the time...

After Christmas last year, the light switch that controls my outdoor lights and outlet went bad. When I went to replace it, I discovered it had melted from the C9 lights. Then I discovered the 30 amp fuse in the fuse box, which allowed me to run that many lights on a circuit. That could have been REALLY BAD. I swapped out all fuses to 15 amp!

Real life is not always unpleasantness, though over the past 30 years or so I realize that pleasantness is no longer deemed "normal".
