    Hello music people

I have put together my system a mixture of new & second hand . My amps & turntable were second hand . Absolute bargains but some things I had to pay out for brand new retail price for .

I would like to know the single most item you have paid the most money for. New or second hand.

For me it was my speakers B&W 703 which cost me £2,000 in 2003. It took some commitment but I am glad I did because I still own them & may be my last serious final speaker. B&W do not make them anymore but if they did I am sure they would retail approx £3,000.00

The B&W CM10 do (IMHO they don't look as nice but they do sound good)

I hope I get a good response for this thread

    Thanks.

Altec Model 19s were around $1,500. My phono, line pre, and amp are all up there too, don't want to think what I would have to spend on those if they hadn't been kits.

Having always been on a rather limited audio budget most of my gear is second, third or more hand, but I did break down and pick up some recent Reference 3a mm de capo speakers for my tube system. They really were ideal for my purposes and even though I had to sink $1,500 into the purchase it was well worth the expense. I can't imagine getting better for my needs than what they can do, so I'm set for a very long time to come now.

  10. Definitely my speakers. Genesis G7.1f. I bought them as a demo pair and got a good price. They listed for $9,000/pair. The new upgraded G7.2fs are $12,000/pair.

FM Acoustics 611 amp. At the whopping sum of $21000 USD. This was back in late '92-early '93. If you would like to purchase the 611's replacement, the 711Mk.II, you're looking at $80000 USD. :D

Probably by far was the Denon 2900 which I bought brand new and full price. It died recently. I'm reluctant now to spend anywhere near that much for any kind of disc player and am using a cheap dvd player until I get something else. My other gear I've either had since I was in HS (long ago); I bought second hand,(a nice Thorens TDP160) or married into (Magnat MSP60 loudspeakers).

I have about $1800 invested in my Thorens TD-124/SME 3009 S2 Improved, including pro servicing.

That's a lot of bread for me, but it provides a lot of enjoyment.

My previous system the BandW 802D at retail 14 grand and got them for 8 grand. Trade in discount, then discounted because I sold my soul at this store, the usual. My current system has all components the same price. Esoteric SACD- 5 grand, DefTech 7000s -5 grand, Kef Subwoofers 5 Grand. Curious uhh? John M.
