You shouldn't really need to ask. It usually means that it sounds old fashioned, old hat.
Mind you there's a ton of Kiss, Beach Boys, Carpenters, Monkees and Olivia Newton John fans here. Hell, I even came across a Tony Chris Appreciation thread the other day. On the Steve Hoffman Forum, cheese rules!

I don't really have a definition of it, but I use "cheesy" to refer to things like (a) cheap sounds, where I mean that fairly literally, like if they're using cheap Casio keyboard sounds, or 8-bit sounds, toy pianos, whatever, as well as (b) stuff that's intentionally goofy--kinda noveltyish, maybe, for example.

Those aren't the only things that I'll call cheesy, but that gives you an idea of what I have in mind by the term.

Cheesy is not at all a bad thing in my view.

Yeah, Farfisa organs are a good example of a cheesy sound (that I like).

Syrupy can mean: overly sweet or sentimental, which is related to cheesy.

Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple has this side thing going with his wife where they play this god awful faux-Medieval-era music. It's just atrocious. I have some friends who are into Renaissance Fair events and they love it.

I tend to dislike all things cheesy or corny, be it music or films, but I do have my cheesy moments. I can listen to Opeth one day, and then Abba on the next - or Mahler, and then Mozart. I think it helps to balance things out.

Hate the song no matter the artists. But actually caught myself enjoying it on the radio one day until I realized what it was.

I didn't really care for Don't Give Up on Us when it was out, but it has a classy and well-crafted arrangement and it's kinda grown on me over the past few decades, well past the point where I would ever consider it "cheesy".

Now, Muskrat Love on the other hand :hurl:

Most Doors stuff was on Vox Continental organ, and later stuff was on a Gibson Organ :)

Any song in which the singer proclaims that he was born to rock, or that he has to rock, or that he can't stop rocking.

Overly exaggerated display of sentimentality that often comes across as unsubtle and insincere.

Someone say cheese, the first song that pops into my cheese melter is "Don't want miss a thin' by Aeroschmidt. :hurl:
