You know.. that magical combo of amp, guitar, guitar strings, and of course the players fingers. Players change their tone sometimes to our dislike and sometimes we like their new tone even more.

So what guitar tone brings a smile to your face very time you hear it?

One of my favorites-Mark Knopfler from the first Dire Straits album.
Clean, bright and totally unique due to his picking style. He mad a Strat sound like no one before him.

    Got any?

Jimi Hendrix. Love the many sounds he got. Those hands of his!

    T-Bone Walker. Wow.

    B. B. King. Classic, the base of so much to come.

Neil Young. That hot rod Tweed sound. And his acoustic guitar sounds. Neil found the unique beauty in each of his excellent instruments.

Yeah yeah and yeah. Neil Young's hot rod Tweed sound ...sounds like the end of the world!

One of my favorites has always been Rod Price's of Foghat. In a word....FAT. Sounds like the train coming at you. He does magic with Mesa Boogie Amps and a Gibson Les Paul.

Another Eric Johnson. Always at or near the top in voter's polls for his overall tone.

I wouldn't ever guess this was a strat if I didn't see Louie playing it. Great vintage amp as well which looks to me to be a 59 Vibroverb. I think Steve said he has one of those.

It *is* all in the fingers, in the end. My favorite tone of all time is from that smooth signature lick from McCartney's "Too Many People".

Yes, especially on the intro to "Hey Hey My My". That is one nasty sound...I love it. I used to blast that at 1:00 am on a Saturday morning in my apartment when the kids above me wouldn't turn down the Techno stuff.

I assume you guys are looking for tones from known recordings, but one of my favorite tones is what I get here from my stereo Gibson 345 with the bass pickup into my 56 Tweed Princeton and the treble pickup into my 59 Tweed Champ.

That combo really has only one basic sound, but my Varitone switch creates some interesting variations. If only I could play it well enough to merit me owning it. :D

That single coil sound, clean into a 1950's tweed Fender amp. That's heaven whether you're Louie or Buddy Holly (into a Bassman). Love it and always will.

Either Johnny Thunders, (50s Les Paul Jr.), or Bruce Springsteen (50s Partscaster, it is not an Esquire). It's kinda a toss up for me depending on my mood.

There are one or two other players, Billy Zoom, Mick Jones, that I think have great, don't but I don't want to muddy the waters. (No pun intended)

Billy Gibbons' tone on the first 5 ZZ Top albums. Pearly Gates into a '59 Bassman I think it was. Heavenly tone! Must be experienced in the original mixes, though.
