    Soundtrack of previously released tracks:
The Big Chill (there's so much great music in this they actually released a second soundtrack to fill in the ones that got missed the first time around)
Life Aquatic Studio Sessions (not sure if this counts because there is an actual official soundtrack, but for those who have not seen the film, there is a character played by a Brazilian man, and in most of (if not all) of his scenes he is playing acoustic Bowie covers. This album is just full versions of those covers.)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (if only for the fact that they were able to get the Zappa estate to allow the use of Watermelon In Easter Hay)
    The Graduate
    Inside Llewyn Davis
    Easy Rider
    The Harder They Come
    Mean Streets
    Pulp Fiction

    Soundtracks written for the film:
    Harold & Maude
    This Is Spinal Tap
Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid
    Paris, Texas
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (even though my favorite song in the film didn't make it onto the official soundtrack).

The soundtrack for the anime show Samurai Champloo is excellent as well.

Quite a few that I like, but I actually listen to these fairly regularly:

    1984
    Liquid Sky
    Xanadu
    La Notte
honorable mention to Suspiria, which gets played mostly at a certain time of year

Star Wars (composed by John Williams) is the soundtrack that got me interested in movie and TV instrumental music. My favourite composers are Williams, Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silvestri, Akira Ifukube, and James Horner and if I had to choose one and only one favourite soundtrack, it would be Star Wars.

Philip Glass' Mishima is fantastic. In a more contemporary direction, Serge Gainsbourg and Michel Colombier's Anna is a treat of sixties Mod-inspired pop, and possibly the greatest showcase of Gainsbourg's versatility as a writer.

That was filmed in my hometown. I don't think they've given the town centre so much as a lick of paint ever since, either!

Taxi Driver - Herman's swansong, great music and the De Niro spoken word bits are great as well.

You have to have one from John Williams's golden 'imperial' period - E.T. is just wonderful.

John Carpenter - Assault on Precinct 13, an iconic electronic score

    Alien/Aliens, Jerry Goldsmith I think.

Drive is a great modern one, a good mixture of score and a handful of obscure original songs

Maurice Jarre's Doctor Zhivago, especially Laura' Theme

As far as these soundtracks that are a collection of well known hits - it can be a bit lazy at times but I do like The Wanderers, Guardians of the Galaxy (which soundtrack plays a key part in the plot, very clever) and the Tarrantino ones.
