    - Blade Runner, Vangelis
    - Koyaanisqatsi, Philip Glass
    - Purple Rain, Prince
    - Saturday Night Fever, Bee Gees & others
    - Miami Vice, Various Artists

Not a big fan of orchestral soundtracks, but Blade Runner and Koyaanisqatsi are extremely nice ones.

The Hot Spot - Bad film, but a stellar soundtrack with Miles Davis, Taj Mahal, and John Lee Hooker.

Let's make a distinction between a collection of popular songs (e.g. American Graffiti) and music composed specifically for a film. Of the former type, 'The Harder They Come' helped launch reggae here in the USA

For music composed for a film, I'd recommend Morricone's soundtrack for 'Days of Heaven' (yeah, he stole some Saint-Saens) and John Williams' soundtrack for 'Empire of the Sun'. Mikis Theodorakis wrote the soundtrack for 'Zorba the Greek' based on some Cretan folk song themes. Must have p.o.'ed the colonels because his music was banned for several years. And of course, Hitchcock films would not be Hitchcock films without the fine mastery of Bernard Herrmann.

Kind of surprised to see Help and Hard Days Night mentioned here, and more than once. Beatles worship aside, the film scores aren't really top-tier. George Martin's score for Yellow Submarine, though, is exceptional. Too bad it was decided to shove all of it off to side two to get ignored.

Grew up in the 60's & 70's loving this music (back then I remembered more of the music than I did the storylines of the episodes). I still love listening to it.
