The first two are no brainers for me. Loved them for decades. Gone Girl was the recent surprise. I have been playing it continually for a few months now and have fallen under its spell.

Did you mean soundtracks, scores or both? People seem to be blending them all together.

Mateo Sanboval For me, the action is the juice.

Not an easy task, but I'm going to shoot first and resist the urge to overthink before option anxiety sets in.

    Blade Runner - Vangelis
The Hired Hand - Bruce Langhorne
    Ghost Dog - RZA

  14. Mateo Sanboval

Mateo Sanboval For me, the action is the juice.

I was going to post a top three of each, but then I realized that if I combined them, I would probably get ten to twenty scores in before a soundtrack made the list so I aborted that idea.

Nothing against soundtracks but I find film scores a little more interesting. Most soundtracks are just a collection of pop(ular) songs and scores are more like 'art music' akin to contemporary classical music. I'd like to hear more about others' favourite film scores as it seems to be a forgotten genre.

i agree but there are many soundtracks that the songs are wisely chosen and the music fits the film great ("The graduate" is one of them i think)
I will post a second top 3 for you (scores only)

Piero Piccioni - Swept Away (1974)
    Bruno Coulais - Microcosmos
philippe sarde - the bear 1988
    these are hard to find

Love the music from Bottle Rocket but the soundtrack is tragically flawed as it missed way too may good songs from the film.

I love sountracks. The very first albums I ever bought were soundtrack albums. These are probably the albums I have played the most over the years.

    1. The man from uncle original tv music soundtrack volume 1. by film score monthly
When I was a kid, I used my dad's reel to reel tape recorder to tape the show, so that I could listen to the music any
time I wanted to. The original music was never available until 2005. I was stunned that it was finally released. The man from uncle tv show was my first exposure to the music of Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schifrin, and Morton Stevens.

    2. Music from the Twilight Zone Tv show volume 1.
marius constant's twilight zone theme, jerry goldsmith the invaders, bernard hermann walking distance. This kind of music I miss from television today. I love the writing of modern tv, but the music by and large has become wallpaper to me, there but not compelling.

    3. The fantasy film music of Bernard Herrmann.
These are excerpts of his film scores conducted by him. His full scores are available other places, but most are not conducted by him.

All of these soundtracks for me bring out the best in jazz and classical orchestral compositions. The never fail to carry me away to other places.

I prefer soundtrack albums with all ORIGINAL music score much better than any soundtrack albums that include old hit singles with one exception "Saturday Night Fever" which include MFSB's "K-Jee" from their 1975 album "Universal Love".

    1. The SOUND OF MUSIC SOUNDTRACK (1965)

    Help!
    Hard Day's Night
    Yellow Submarine

(figure Let It Be doesn't really count as the versions are different)

Just performed all the songs from Help! live Saturday night in honor of Feb being the 50th anniversary of the month when most of the soundtrack songs were recorded.

    Here's the title track:
