I’ll be watching the 2005 Christian Carion film...Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas)
“In December 1914, an unofficial Christmas truce on the Western Front allows soldiers from opposing sides of the First World War to gain insight into each other's way of life”
This year being the 100th anniversary of the Armistice..the film will be more significant.

A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I've watched it almost every year since I was born. Ok, I don't actually remember watching it in the years soon after I was born but you get where I am going. It's been a long time. :) I'm happy to have a DVD of it now so I can control when I watch it. I believe there is a colorised version but I watch the black and white one. I don't have a position on that but I know that is an important distinction here.

We always watch It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, and usually watch no movies whatsoever on Christmas Day, as that day is spent opening presents and with family.

Three or four Xmases ago, after having a very hectic Xmas day, I threw myself on the couch around midnight on Xmas night and watched this on demand because of its title and because it had an Xmas tree in the promo shot.

Man, the acting was pretty good, but all roads lead to sadness. I don't think I'll watch it again this Xmas -- I try my best to stay positive around the holidays and be thankful for all the love and warmth I have in my life, and a movie like this could puncture and pop the mood pretty quickly! That said, I would like to see it one more time in the right context.

I never heard of this. It looks very interesting & I think I'll check it out this year (just not on Christmas Eve or Day).

Reminds me of a movie I really like and watched every year for a while: Where God Left His Shoes. Very sad movie set on Christmas Eve. Sort of has an uplifting ending, but just sort of. The acting is great.

Maybe not on Christmas Eve, but definitely before New Year's I'd like to view this BR copy of The Apartment that I have not yet seen:

My Christmas eve tradition too. And yes the black and white version NOT the colorized.

On a side note, some time over last summer I was channel surfing and ran across an Alistair Sim movie I never heard of called "The Belles of St. Trinian's" (1954). Alistair Sim in drag! Nearly shattered my illusions of Christmas.

I remember a made-for-tv movie called "An American Christmas Carol" with Henry Winkler.

    I enjoyed that one.

"Die Hard" is a Xmas classic on German TV. I`m not kidding.

I prefer "The Polar Express" though.

It's sort of one in the US too, although it appears very few Christmas movies of any kind are actually shown on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. Aside from The Christmas Story marathon, most channels have their holidays programming earlier in the month it seems.

Die Hard was on a lot last year, I don't see it as much now. With this year being the 30th anniversary, I was expecting to see it more. (I did see it in a theater for the 30th though.)
