I'm listening to this album released in 1950 for the first time right now! Nice thing about classical records of this vintage - they can be found for dirt cheap ($1) in pristine condition. Of course, it helps if you like the music.....
Just checked out the American Spring album that Brian Wilson produced for his wife in 72. Really lovely collection of songs, wish there was more.
Within the last month I've bought almost the entire catalog of The Kinks. Wow, do they have some great stuff. I really like the albums from Face To Face - Percy. I went in only knowing the hit singles and boy was I surprised to find some many awesome songs.
Family Music In A Doll's House Bought only within the last couple months (fifty years later!). Played it a few times. Not what I was expecting. Enjoying it. I bought a UK Reprise tan label, 2nd press, is it? Cover a bit bent but record mint.
This may be a shock to people on here but until around two weeks ago I had never heard Aja. Now I should preface that the song Ricky, especially the chorus, had put me off ever wanting to listen to Steely Dan so only recently gave them time again. Glad that I did. While I have less issues with that song it’s still not super great for me. But Aja, well that I like a lot.
Really? With the posts you have made, I would have thought you were a long time fan. I got into them (beyond the half dozen '60s tracks we have all heard many times) only in the late '80s and '90s, and it took a while for those late '60s albums to grow on me.
No, very new convert to the brothers Davies. But everything I've bought has been so good I guess I've been a little vocal about it. It was posts on these forums that I started reading when I joined in January that made me start buying their albums.
Which pressing? If it’s the 45rpm version you are in for a treat as it is one of the best sounding records I’ve ever heard.
Nice My copy is a single LP. Green label Columbia ML-4418 Duke Ellington And His Orchestra - Masterpieces By Ellington
Ellington Mingus Roach - Money Jungle Older than the first Beatles album and still fresher than the milk in my fridge. Masterclass!
I bought almost every Kinks album this year, and never had anything prior other than "One for the road"/"Greatest hits"/"Lola vs powerman" and the "Superman/Low budget" 45. A few of the new acquisitions are LPs and most Cds. I've listened to all of them at least once.
There have been a few: 10cc - Original Soundtrack Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy I've been on a 70's kick lately. Playing records from artists where I really like a key song in the catalog but I know nothing about the album it was served up on. In the case of these, some are great records such as 10cc and Lightfoot. The Gary Wright record is going to grow on me, I think. NGDB is a nice album but the mastering is awful.
The first Crabby Appleton album. Found that one in a stack of punk/hardcore albums. It was a pleasant surprise.
