Lee Morgan "The Sidewinder" Wayne Shorter "Speak No Evil" Dexter Gordon "Go!" Yep. Having a bit of a classic jazz trip...
INXS ~ The Swing. I'd heard the singles a zillion times but never in the context of the album. Great!! OST ~ Midnight Express Only familiar with The Chase. The album's well worth spinning
Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow - bought it on vinyl in January, an Italian reissue from late 1970s. And it's one of my favorite records now. Love it! Grateful Dead's Anthem Of The Sun - got that one last month (new vinyl reissue). I liked the artwork first, so I bought it.^^ Great experimental album! Mothers Of Invention's We're Only In it For The Money - bought a vinyl reissue of it this Easter. Unusual but pretty funny.
Bert Jansch - It Don't Bother Me. Back in the 60s, I had the American compilation Lucky Thirteen which had 5 of the 14 cuts, but never heard the complete album until I purchased it recently. Nice to hear some unfamiliar early Jansch.
Still can remember when I bought the Capitol Albums Vol.1 long box, that was almost 10 years ago. Heard it on a train ride trip back home via Discman. Meet The Beatles was playing. First time I heard songs that originally came from With The Beatles. I believe this was even the last Fabs album I got to know. Bought the 2009 remaster in the year of its release.^^
The Rowan Brothers (1972). David Stoughton: Transformer (1968). The Pousette-Dart Band (1976). Jules Shear: Watch Dog (1982).
I had a Jazz phase between Christmas last year and January. And exactly these albums were part of my 'first time listening' sessions.^^
Recently I picked up a White Label Promo copy of Runt by Todd Rundgren on Ampex. This is the first time I ever heard it all the way through.
I buy a minimum of 50 vintage ( mostly jazz and some pop) albums a month and I listen to all of them straight through. One recent 2-lp set had 24 or so early sides by Sinatra when he was still in the Dorsey orchestra. Yesterday I played a Richard Chamberlain MGM album for the first time. My list would be as long as your arm. Grant Green Modern Jazz Quartet George Shearing Diann Carroll Namitas De Plata Ahmad Jamal Clark Terry Gerry Mulligan with Chet Baker Chico Hamilton Art Pepper Art Van Damme Mundell Lowe
I never owned a Yardbirds LP until a few years ago but I've managed to get all the US Epics in mono now. Over,Under,Sideways,Down was the latest and maybe my favorite but I like them all!
The UK Gomelsky (Charly) box is my go-to. Of course you need Roger The Engineer and Little Games as well.
You know, there are two wildly different stereo mixes of that album. The cd has the later one, remixed when the quad was created. This same mix is on the MFSL vinyl. The original 1967 stereo is on the common vintage Deram vinyl and some pre-cd era import vinyl and tapes. The original mix has the Moodies mostly in mono with the orchestra in a circle around them.
