I third the vote for "Living in the Material World". Very good record, just not too upbeat. George's vocals on Be Here Now are just plain beautiful and inspired. Just heard the title track on Beatles-A-Rama DSL on the web. Great station, check it out.

Supertramp: Paris 2LP U.S. original. Off-center dammit! Still a good album. Feels strange now that they have sold millions of albums. Wouldn't it be great if Supertramp were back on top of the charts in 2003? It could happen... Yeah, right.

Duke Ellington Meets Count Basie (SACD) Man this sounds really good. It's hard to believe this is a forty year old recording. Sometimes it's nice to jump into the "way back machine".

    Norm,

I've always wondered who had the idea to cover "Now That I've Found You" first: Alison Krauss or Shawn Colvin? I heard Shawn do it acoustic in a small club not long after her first solo came out (87/88?). It was a big thrill for me--I love the song and wasn't expecting it. Then, she asked the audience: Who sang the original? Me and another guy a couple tables over answered at the same time. Then, I got her bonus question: What was the foundations other big hit? As we all know, Build Me Up, buttercup.

Not that Alison wouldn't necessarily have come up with the song to cover anway, but I've always wondered if she might've heard Shawn's version live then decided later to record it. (I don't think it's on Shawn's live album, but not sure.)

    Doug:
Funny; I just played this song for my wife last night. Wanted to her to hear it so bad I ran out to the car barefoot (cold here) and got the disc and popped it in and killed the sound on the basketball game. Great disc and a great cover. That Jerry Douglas is amazing.
As for Colvin, I have seen her maybe a dozen times and never heard her do that song. I'll bet it's great! It's not on the Live '88 album. I have a ton of her boots at home and will check there (I only buy boots if I buy all of the artists stuff anyway...LOL)
    Thanks for hitting me back.
    Enjoy!

Yeah, I was planning on doing that. USA Today gave it 3.5 of 4 today, even commenting favorably on Jill Hennessey's(!) two performances. Of course, it's T-Bone, so you have to figure the A&R side of it's going to be strong.
