I am LOVING how often the execrable "Spinning Wheel" turns up on this list!

Hmmm. Not sure every song with a catchy hook "deserves" to be a hit. If that was the case, Billy Ray Cyrus would STILL be No. 1. Some hooks are like earworms. They invade your brain and devour everything in their path. Not a good thing.

But if you mean that the hook in "Spinning Wheel" is responsible for it being a hit I'd say you're right. Which means the songwriter should be in prison right now paying his debt to society.

    Hi all, new here...

You have covered all the classic offenders, but "SW" bears special mention for me:
"Spinning Wheel" has the worst kind of pseudo-funky melody line, the kind of half-baked "jazz approach" that drives me crazier than just about anything else mentioned.
I hate this tune for the same reason I dislike most anything by Steely Dan: a pervasive sense of smugness in the music (I have had to listen to 'Aja' and other Dan for years at sound checks.)

However, novelty tunes are a close second (unless they are very well done) and one that has tormented me over the years is "Mah-Na-Mah-Na". That idiotic melody, usually coupled with Muppets-like vocals, should be banned for good. "The Martian Hop" by the Ran-Dells can cause brain damage as well.

This piece of dreck by Joe Dolce was all over the radio when I was in Rome, no way to avoid it (big hit, of course):

Anyway, excellent entries so far. One day a box set should be made.....

Might have been a decent song if not for the mind numbingly awful background vocals ( actually I wish they were more numbing as I could ignore them)....and it's in the middle of a nice side of music so it's hard to skip.

Come On Eileen. Every time I hear that song (only in a mall or store - It's not allowed in my home), I look for a noose!

IMO it interrupts the flow of an otherwise perfect album.

If it was albums I would've posted "25". I'm one of those who hopped on the "25" bandwagon.

I don't hate it but I was disappointed by it. It's not nearly as good as her previous albums.
The hype is only making it seem worse because it doesn't live up to it. :sigh:

I just checked out the video... I have yet to hear the whole album, but... Is it me, or is her voice the only thing that keeps the song from being totally generic?... Her voice is good here, but something sounds... Off... Am I detecting the ever so slight whiff of autotune in there?

Well it's good that they put that out there as a preview because the album has another dozen or so just like it. Any one of them is fine, but trying to listen to the whole thing made me want to shoot myself....
