What the heck was wrong with girls in 1964?

Watching the Beatles Anthology again. Never ceases to amaze me how insane the girls were for them. Or maybe they were just insane in general.

What the hell was going on that made presumably normal girls act the way they did when the Beatles arrived in America?

It was like that in the movie theaters when Hard Days Night came out, too.

I didn't hear a line of dialogue, the first time I saw it.

Girls behaved like that whenever I walked down the halls in high school. It was so embarrassing.

These crazy broads need to get it together like me, a 42-year-old guy who can tell you when a picture of the Beatles was taken based strictly on Ringo's facial hair.

And that's when he decided to become a roadie as soon as he was old enough ..:)

Since you asked - I see little to no difference between the girls in the above 1964 photos and the innumerable threads posted here in 2015 on the same subject.

Not to sound overly clinical, but it was basically a case of the exact right product reaching a new and very pent up market. Many Americans born immediately post-WWII enjoyed a period of unprecedented economic expansion and standard of living, and the suburbs were exploding. Eventually you have this mass of teens with enough means to buy stuff poised to get into and consume something, and a lot of the something turned out to be The Beatles and the other invasion bands.
