What the heck was wrong with girls in 1964?

I don't think so. Surely plenty of men lusted after Debbie Harry and any number of female performers. I don't know anything about Suzi Quatro. But I've never seen men reduced to screaming and weeping and flat out hysterics the way girls are from One Direction, Bieber, and in the past New Kids On The Block, N'Sync, Duran Duran, Beatles, Elvis, etc.

Worst example of girls going nuts at a concert for me was at a Countdown music awards night with a band called Uncanny X-Men vs INXS who both performed that night. The screaming was horrendous in mid 1980s. Same era I also experienced screaming a lot at a Paul Young concert here in Melbourne.

You've never seen 'men screaming and weeping and flat out hysterical'? Obviously you have never been to a major SPORTING event. :cussing:

Blondie - Hammersmith Odeon 1978 - the guys were not restraining themselves at the sight of Debbie Harry! :D

Fair point, but women do that at sporting events too. Not as much, as there are generally more men into sports, but its getting pretty even these days. In any case, I was wondering if there was a musical performer that had the effect on men that male acts mentioned in this thread have had on women. I've never seen that.

It was an ingredient in the US, I would concur.
But it's not the whole story.. at the end of the day, the music and talent spoke for itself (and still does to this day, long after JFK).

Why are people still using Beiber as a reference point in 2015? He's finished, people... :sigh:

This is really important, and I really care what current crap little girls are screaming for in 2015.

    But, noted.

We certainly care about what they were screaming about in 1964 though, right?!? ;)

I was just pointing out the de-evolution of music.

    I do that a lot.

I guess you'd have to be a girl to understand why they scream. Maybe it's because females are taught that it's OK to be emotional, and males are taught that it is not.

Or ... maybe girls are just more emotional than guys.

Maybe so, but there's a downside to that statement as well.

    4 Beatles = 1 Bieber?

Honestly, I once saw PJ Harvey live, and I completely lost my ****, not unlike these 1964 girls.

The situation is analogous to the situation where male dancers are entertaining females. The ladies tend to show
their appreciation more vigorously than males. Usually when males are entertained by
female dancers, we tend to "study" the action ( men needing that visual stimulation, we're just
absorbing the scene until .... )

What's more insane, hormonally crazed teeny-boppers in 1963 screaming at The Beatles, or grown men in 2015 expecting the Beatles' children to form a band coping their parents?

Men costume up with fantasy clothing & make up, scream, and start fights over a ball getting chased around by other grown men.
