Thank you. I got it in my head, a number of years ago, that I had to have a Fisher receiver. A neighbor kid's dad had one back when the 500 and 800 series were still in production. It was 'high fidelity,' back when those words meant, "something that you don't hear very often and are pretty impressed when you do." Since acquiring that receiver, my quest has been not so much to improve on that sound, but rather to refine it. But for me, the 500B defined it.
All Sansui: AU-X901 amp, SR-838 TT, & TU-717 tuner are all international 120V only models. Also fm USA: 3 pr spkrs, spkr stands, GX-100 NOS TT rack. Purchased fm overseas: 2 pr 'high-efficiency' spkr cables, 2 pr 'high-efficiency' interconnects, 5 pr grey logoed interconnects, special 'high-efficiency' connectors/connections 4ea, correct headshell for TT, and 1980 NOS Ortofon M20FL super cart, . Also other '70s promo stuff obtained. Took 6.5 years to find all these specific items. Glad it's done.
I picked up a Luxman R117 a few months back for $100 - AWESOME amp. It drives my Klipsch Chorus II's to stadium volumes at about 1/4 way up on the volume control!
I love the older 'Big Iron' amplifiers and receivers. The Sansui, Marantz, Mcintosh units are amazing and quite addictive. As of late though I have been leaning towards the non tube powered models.
I have a Marantz 1060 amplifier but it needs work, and unfortunately there aren't any people near me who know how to repair these older units.
Picked up a Scott 272 amp. Same as Scott Lab 290 series, but with the phono & preamp. Rebuilding, should have running next week. One audiophile stated preferred the Scott 272 to a Marantz model 8.
