For me, it was Take Me Home Country Roads, in this case the version by Olivia- Netwon-John that was a bit of a hit in '75 or so. That was the version I heard on the radio as my parents drove me to the bus, on what was my first sleepaway camp experience. Needless to say, although I had a pretty good time, I was really homesick. All throughout the few weeks I was at the camp, that song was running through my brain as the lyrics totally related to my situation and what I was feeling.

Well, in the summer camp category, it's Hyland's "Sealed With A Kiss".

In 1962, I was at a coed summer horse ranch type camp (ala Spin and Marty for you mousketeers) and in instant LOVE with a pretty brunette who was there for two weeks and from out east somewhere.

The song echos the pain and promise, for my reverse scenario of meeting in the summer. In reality, I never saw the girl again.

Stand By Me, John Lennon's version. I played it constantly in a juke-box by a bar on the beach while on vacation with my parents. First time I fell in love, from a distance obviously. She was a young girl from Germany, I never had the nerve to go and talk to her. I was twelve.

"Cat's in the Cradle" - Harry Chapin. I realized at the tender age of 10 that everything is fleeting.

    Nice one.

I was five or six when "Wildfire" was all over the AM radio in the 70s. It was played so often the lyrics sunk in to my kindergarten brain, and I found it unutterably depressing.

John Leyton - 'Johnny Remember Me'. I was about 8 years old when I first heard it and it just made me feel so sad. The production was (and still is) amazing, especially the female voices. I can still get goosebumps listening to it.

I don't know if it was the first, but the first song I thought of when I read the thread title was Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel. Still gives me chills to hear it.

That is probably my favorite Elton John song. Incredibly powerful.

Without question, The Beach Boys, In My Room, when I was 12 or 13. It was the first time a song really spoke to me.

Some of the titles mentioned here. As a child I loved instrumentals and Herb Alpert and the TJB version of "Flamingo" from S.R.O. always hit me and now for better or worse is part of my DNA. Thats probably the earliest or first song other than the obvious McCartney love songs from 63-65. "'Woudnt it be nice" and so many many, hard to really know for sure. John M.

The closing theme song for "The Incredible Hulk" TV series ("The Lonely Man Theme").

Dead serious - I would have been around eleven and I recall having a definite emotional response. Very sad song and fit in well with the overall theme of the show.

Probably ''Scarborough Fair'' by Simon And Garfunkel, that scene in ''The Graduate'' where the song is playing while Dustin Hoffman is trying to find the church where Elaine is about to marry someone else brought tears to my eyes when i first watched it, still does.
