What were white male jocks listening to in Minnesota, summer 1980?

    I do think there's a possibility that some of the respondents were possibly trying to be amusing. Enough of the artists were on their way out of general popularity stateside for many years by then (Manilow, Bee Gees, ABBA) and were well past it (Bay City Rollers) that I think joking responses may have been mixed in.

    Good point. Yeah I'll be honest, I didn't even consider white male jocks in 1980 looking for laughs with silly responses. :doh:

    I was a freshman in 1980 and Blizzard of Ozz was my favorite that year. Back in Black was a close second. At the time I had no idea of Black Sabbath and Bon Scott at the time. Judas Priest took less than a year to find my radar...then I got into new wave and Zep, Pink Floyd ect...

    Actually Blizzard came out in '81 in the US, unless you imported it from England.

    I was born and raised in the Mid West, Wisconsin actually and I would say the list above is very representative of that time and the first part of the 1980's. I discovered much more music having lived on both the east and west coasts.
    It is a bit of a time capsule, like every decade is.
